Kditou I'.vitMiiii: As I was passing through tho country a little 1 thought 1 would sotul you a few Items thinking per haps It niiiiht interest your mauy readers. I left homo on tho l.lih, and stopped that night im llowoll Prahle, where, judgln? from tho stiibhlo, they have lwl a bountiful crop I'asslns; on through JttBersou and taking middle mud I entered tho prairie at Knox's Huttej hero I saw Uve headers and threshers Hi work in sight at one time, aud hundreds ol acres of grain uuharvested. Judging from what I saw their crops aro not as good as in Marian county, Aftor passing up this road about twolve mile, I turned my course lor Brownsville. Much of the farms about this town are sown in Flax, in fact I saw nioro of this crop within five miles around ttrownsvillo than in all the rest of my trav els thereafter. Tho crop looked poor, and 1 asked ouo of the farmers who was eugagod in raising it if it paid, and ho answered, "I think I would have done bettor If I had of sowed wheat this year." Passing od, I crossed tho north fork of tho Willamette at Spores' ferry, and here about Springfield I found the nicest (arming coun try that I have seen since I left Howell's Prairie, and I am not sure but it beats that. Stock of all kinds I believe is generally bet ter than in Marion county, and atB. F. Pow er, Springfield, I saw a fine lut of long wooled sheep. More anon. G. W. Dimick. Thk Hor Crop. It being now tho last week In August, with all the early hops al ready picked and mostly sold, and just in the commencement of the harvest of the later kinds, we can make something more than a estimate of the present crop In fact we have the results. The weather the patt week has been very favorable for the crop -as well for the picking as for the qiuliiy and healtbfulness of the vine and crop. Clear bright days with cool nights givethe hop the best weather to mature in and if this con tinues for the next two weeks, the crop will all be secured, and generally of a very line quality. Now, growers of the early varieties made their estimates for double the orop tbey had last year from the same acreage, and the pick ings' have proved that these high estimates wore still quitf ton low, for in every instance thev have more than doublwd lat year's crop. Pickings of the latd variotles have net ad vanced tar enough to give such plain ihsulty in fact no crop is t.ato uutll secured by the harvest ofthosime, but with tho eoutinu anca of our tine weather, It must bo greater and generally butler than wo have had in eight or ten years at least, and will excel the very tine crop of last year one-third at least. Otsego county, occupying a central pnsi turn, as it does, in tho hop-growiDg districts ot Jthe State, what cm bo said for the hops here can be applied, with lew exceptions, to the whole hop growing district ot'New York. Under tlieso circumstances tho question urisfls whether growers, it they are wise, diould not umke conc?'-Ions lu price suffi cient to put one-third or more of tnis ernn on the torelgn mirkt, in preference to holding it over in thtlr own hands.
