In setting out the plant allow plenty of room; a common ewor is inplantlng too closely, , especially if the beds are deeply dug.r II Is better to give ' more horizontal pace, and the shoots will bo large and fine. Tor extorsive plantations, the rows should be about three feet pert, and plant not nearer than nine ineuei in the row, Btretch a line, cut a trench beside it soven or eight inches deep, or deep enough to rocolre the plants, and set them nine inches apart, spreading out the roots evenly, and covering the crown "about two inches below the surface. This work should be done as early in the spring aa the ground can be got ready, and the plants will make alwttor ud stronger growth than when planted later. Then, to save labor, and have a clean plantation, go over the whole surface with a rake ev ery few days, and stir tbo whole surface well, which will break and destroy the yonngweedsa they are just peeping at the surface. If the rows are marked, ibis work may be done more rapidly with a horse and light and fine-tooth harrow (a smoothing barrow would be best), the teeth of which will not go down more than 'one inch. A common harrow will not answer at all. As the. young sprout approach the surface, which will bo in two or three weeks, the cultivation must be confined between the rows, and any weeds in the rows pulled out by band. Cultivator.
