VJpLTPMTfc WIOLIAMiEllTE E'A.RMaER. 6 The Wool .Market. prodmcwH, nml ucuicM will now tarn tUo& nttt'iilloii directly to growon nt homo: "kx. Chicago, Jan.. 17,873. Kdllor Willamette Farmer: The reports from Now York, Hos ton, ana Pliilndclpliin, concerning tlio wool tiiitikot, a ro encouraging. Stocks nro light of nil grades, and no doubt that present quotations will bo maintained until spring, nnd Home lire expecting n decided Advance on all good wool". Foreign wool Is Rcnruely to be found In tho market. The dullness In lliu wool market has been occasioned by tlio Htrlngcncy of tho money market, and the exceed ingly high rato for monoy which lias ruled in the Knstern cities, which has been from twelve to fifteen per cent, on first class collaterals. When an easy money market returns, man ufacturers will purehaso more freely. Tho first of January having lioeii passed, holders feel that they can now control tho market. In Kiiglaud tlio wool trade Is firm in tone. Long Htuplo Kngllsh wool is in demand, and is held at extreme rates. In regard to the supply of wool in llnglnnd, wo have the follow ing statistics of tho years 1870, 1871, and I87L'. Tlio Imports for ton months end lug October, 1870, were 'JiW.'JIO, 'J58 pounds. Deducting tho exports of tho same time, which were 77,!188, 031 pounds, and there Is a not Import for ten months of lf",,8-J7,721 pounds. Of this amount, 18,000,X)0 Mere car ried over to 1S7I. Tlio imports for tlio name tlmo In 1871, were :100,0!I0, (121 pounds, which added to the 18, (K)0,(H0 pounds give .1! 8,0:10,(1:! I lbs. Tliu cxjiorts for this time wero, 121, 490,317 pounds, thus leaving a not importation of 11)7, 1 10,30 1 pounds. In tho fall of IH7I there was a very small Mipply of wool In tlio hands of deal er nnd manufactures, and prices ad vanced. Imports for 1872 for tho sumo tlmo woro l7.".,032,00Ti ounds. Deduct the exports, 127,lor,tl30, and the net imports were 1 I7,02!,i:r IM. Honeo there Is left .'.0,(100,000 pounds less wool for consumption In (Ircat llritain hi IS72 than there was in 1871. Thlsuinountlsenual lo twenty livnper cent. lev. It is also stated that thero has been a very largo itiuntlty of new machinery put Into operation during 1872, which will add to the supply needed to keep tlio machinery In operation. In many branches of tho trade, ' consumption has been greatly Increased by run ning machinery nights as well us days. Dealers and manufacturers were never so barely stocked as they wero In tho full of 1S72. Taking Into consideration nil tho attendant elr euinstancos, nnd the prospect frnn advance In (Ircat llritain of the price or wool Is sure. It Is estimated that if the conxiiinption of 1872 had only gono nt the same rate of 1371, thero would be short two mouths' supply, and when the Increased machinery and other Items nro taken Into ac count, there can bo not less than from two and a hair to three mouths' supply rt the effect of which must bring about higher prices, not only In (J rent llritain, but in this country. In Now York, Texas wool of tho spring clip has tieeii In good demand at full price, leaving but light stocks in tho hands of tho receivers, fall fornln spring clip has Iteon rather quiet, while the rail clip has attracted more attention, and a fair business has Ix.'cn trausieted in it. The January quotation of domestic tleeco Is Cm to 7fi cents. In Philadel phia a lively business is being done this month. Domestic lleece Is quo tod at (13 to 70 cents. In Hasten, pri ces nro advancing. Trices arc quoted: Western tleeco, 03; Ohio, tw to 07; Michigan, CM lo s; Wisconsin, ca. The wool trado of tho past season has taught a good lesson to wool sim ulators, anil that N wool producers nro not moulded into shape to suit tlio avaricious propensities of wool dealers. No doubt It has been a sad nnd hard lesson to speculators. Im IHirtMtloiu nro falling off, nnd from present Indications tho receipts of foreign 'wools will Ih much Itelow tlud of luM winter, and spring: uud from thoigonornl outlook?, tho pros pect is good for fair prices for tho wool now ill ino nanus ut uio iumuv PREMIUM LIST T or THI - WILLAMETTE FARMER Fourth Yearjrf Publication.
