John Di.v.vins, Sec'y. Patrons of Husbandry. Maksi iri..i.i, Clackamas Co., 1 Feb. 10, 187:. J l."il!o' WllUmetto Farmer: As your very valuable paper is de voted almost exclusively to tho in terests of tho farming community, 1 write you this to tell you that the rarmers or this vicinity are going to work, as I think, In tho right way to ndvanco their interest and elevate the noblo calling to which they do voto their lives. Mr. J. Campbell, State Deputy, "appointed by the Na tional Granso of "Tho Patrons of Husbandry," called n meeting of the farmers of tills county and organized n .Subordinate Orange, at this place on Jan. 15th. This is an order which has been in successful operation in the older States during tho last five years, and is spoken of In tho highest terms by those acquainted witli its workings. ..... This Is the first attempt to establish the order on this coast. The princi pal advantago of tho organization Is, that it unites tho farmers, thus en abling them to co-operate with, and protect each otiicr. Tho institution h yet in its infancy here, but relia ble men nro preparing to canvass the State and country, and we expect before fall to seethe farmers of tho entire Willamette valley united In similar societies all united under one general hoad for mutual protec tion nnd tho advancement of agricul ture. Any Inquiries respecting the Or der will bo cheerfully answered by addressing tho Secretary of tho Grange, Win. G. Welch, or any far mer In this vicinity. Very respectfully, II. E. Cii.VMnr.nLiN. " m a. Cormpondtnct. En. Faumuu: I nm a constant reader oryour valuable paper, I say raluattle, for I consider It valuablo In the most emphatic senso of tho wonl as a medium through which farm ers who are so scattered, can And out what each other aro doing, and what they ought to do, and how to do what Is necessary to bo done. It reins to ino that tho reports of tho Farmers' Clubs are calculated to do a L'reat deal of good, especially among that class of farmers who aro so situ ated they cannot attend those meet iiiK. And right hero I would ray, Farmers, organlzo clubs in, every neighborhood, and discuss all thoso subjects that nro of such vital Import ance to tho farmer, until wo as a class lieeomomoro wide nwake to our In terests and bo nblo to act more In unison, so as to coinlwt successfully tho monopolies and rings that so op press tho formers, especially, let them become awnko upon the great, im portant question of storing their own grain In their own granaries and warehouses, and ln their own vacks and under their own control, where they can manage It as best suits tholr Interest and not tho In terests of dealers. And now, -Ur. Editor, the eourso or tho W'MamtHe Parnur ought to Insure it a hearty support from every farmer, who should b a subscriber, awl as far as practicable a contributor to its col umns, making it truly tho tonuor' orcAtu k " Humphrey' Ferry, Feb. 10, 1873.
