"WILLAMETTE FAEMEE. Fields and Field Crops. Tho following report was inudo to Uock Point Formers' Club, hyO, S. Downing, standing committee: In tlio first ulace. it Hlioultl Ik tlio study of nil furmora to know liowvto ontnin trio jronicjt yieiu irom ma furm from tho least amount of lalxr. Sinco It 1h nn admitted fact that every (lino land Is plowed or stirred, (c Iteclally in dry, hot weather) it lows n grent deal of tho properties requir ed to produce a large yield, plowing in the fall for miring crops has heen recommended by home limners, lo-cnti-jo there was jnore leisure and the team Is usually in hotter flesh and .strength than in the spring, and that laud ho plowed i.s in hotter condition for sowing oats in in the spring, and Oiat dry land t-o plowed does not suf fer ho much from drought. Hut T disagree with all such theories, and Iwliovc that it is the host policy to sow immediately after plowing, If it is to he sowed at all. If laud i.s to ho summer fallowed it may he plowed in the fall or winter to good advan- inrrrt ItihlKnil nf Imlntr nlnufil In Mm' or June as is usually lono. Tlio aii vanlago of fall or winter plowing for Hummer fallow is, (here is generally more leisure time to plow than In the .spring and by turning all tho obnox ious seeds including tho wild oats,iu tho fall or early winter, they will unroot and bo ready for growing by tho first of July, the time to begin stirring the ground with cultivator to kill such growths which I believe Is much lKttr than plowing, since it is a nettled fact that plowing land In July and August Is very injurious to the laud. In regard to crops, I am of tho opinion that fall sowing of wheat is Indispensable to tho farmor that wlshestobosucces.sful, and tho white fall wheat is preferable to all other kinds, unless It Is the Chile club, which Is a white wheat and succeeds well. sowed either in the fallorsnrlncr und 1 believe will out yield tho old white wheat. For a fertilizing crop, T would re commend peas, or rye. tlio rye to be sowed in the fall, and pastured the following summer, and plowed under in the fall and sowed to wheat. Such practice has been known to succeed well. Thoro aro other crops, such as pumpkins, squashes, turnips, ruta bagas, and cabbage, that aro Indis pensable to the farm, and can bo made profitable to tho farm In the way of feud for his stock. Tr.iiiiim.i'.MvuiiKK. The Herald contains the particulars of a murder committed six miles from Sheridan, Yamhill county, on tho night of Fein Itli. Tho murdered mm was IUmiJu mln Jlasbrook.
