"VVILLA.METTE FAEMER. dorse the Mursh Harvester as being the best machine where binding is to be done, and he might stop to query whether it is not better than tho header for small farmer, or those who desire to feed out tho straw ami wo it for manure. His friend fJeer is a little mistaken about the hard work in binding upon the harvester, as a man ran bind live acres standing upon tho machine platform much easier than ho can two and a half acres walking through tho stubble and stooping to gather up at each bundle. Of course it is teady work, but not over hard, llo was willing to corroborate Mr. Allen's statement as to tho superior value of the trav for feed, when cut In .season by the harvester. The harvester may cut greener straw than tho header. In reply to tho question of the val ue of tho straw, Mr. it. C. Geer was inclined to doubt tho claim of Messrs. Allen and Leonard, as his stock scorn ed to cat tho haded straw with avid ity and do well upon it. Ho thought there was not difl'erenco enough to spcuk of. Mr. Walk, a visitor to tho Club, had seen a great amount of grain wasted with all kinds of machines, . and aUo with grain cradles, and ho 4ad scou grain in the same condi tions cut witli tho samo kind of ma chines with a very trilling lo. All operations with machinery required 'killed operations, and then the Iihs is very small comparltivcly. With a good machine, kept well in order, with good tight header beds, good drivers for tho teams', with good com mon care, tho waste need not bo a peck to tho acre. With such'earo as Is usually bestowed, ho thought tho wa.to did not amount to any thing '.erlouslw a general rule. Club adjourned to meet at Home Hill, on tho 15th Kovomber. Question for discussion, How shall wo protect our sheep from tho at tacks of carnivorous animals? T. W. J).vvi:ni:oiit, .Secretary. TjicSiock. Kurmeii siy tho win ter has been so far hard on the "took. The lack of early ralnx loft the grats lhort when the cold wc.ithor ot in, and tho cold chilly rains have, boon hard on unsheltered cattle. TIioo farmers who nie not well uppllcd with feed and shelter niay.oxpect to posset's a goodly number of boot hides minus tho boot' when -prlng opeiw. But hides are bringing good prices iineo the !o-ton Hie, and If farmers will only loam by this whitei's experi ence to p.ivo their htnvw and provide t-holtor for their stoJt, their pro'ent loss may piove their ultlniat vain. Man'saiid 1'oofk--TJico loots have been torn few yoais very popular In thoUiilted States, lint their days are about numbered, at least ho far as bus! Hess.or public buildings aie concerned in tho cities1 They .uo found to be -uch ready food for the ilatnes in easo of extensive II res that insurance com panies are very ihy of them. Tho custom of erecting substantial stone and brick buildings and covering them with tinder boxes will not bo followed much longer. Thoso roofs are like a great many other French Inventions, (tho Commune, for Instances too com bustible for practical purpose. They will bo u-ed hoioat'tcr rhlnly as " Insurance piovontlvos." Savi:i). The Old South church of Boston passed through the tire c.ifoly, though nearly siirrouilcd by thollatni's. t was struck by a canon ball timing, tlio tight or liuuKcr inn, ana tno -co ilon scarred by the ball was tawed out and transferred to tho new, building when the old one was torn away. Patriots will bo glad to leant that this noted reminder of that famous -trug- glo passed safely through tho trial by , tire. If only tho freedom . and the Institutions seemed bytho-o inenior ablo battles pa- as 'afely thiough tbel llres of political corruption, there will , be cause for rejoicing Indeed. Tm: Lops.
