The Coming Demand for Animal Food.
CuiCACio. Oct. 2.". 1972.
Ed. Fahmer. ThcroUn growing
demand for animal food. The lilsli
prico of moat In England, led to the
lato riots. This liicrh nrleo wns
brought about from the scarcity of
nnimul food, nnd by a combination of
ft serious character which Is not of a
transient nature. The most import
ant causes of this scarcity and high
prico nro tho loss of cattle from foot
nnd mouth disease and the rinder
pest, mid tho decreased imports from
tho Continent, owing to tho samo
diseases there, and tho high prices
resulting therefrom, nnd tho great
droughts of 1808 andJ1870, which led
to the killing of n great many cattle
at too young an ago. Also tho in
creased population of Great JJrnitnn,
nnd tho increased prosperity of the
working elass, which enables them
to eat nnlmal food dally, instead of
weekly, as heretofore. The Franco
Gorman war, which led to tho hostllo
occupation of one-tilth of the terri
tory of France, and to the great con
sumption nnd inevitable waste of an
imal food by two vast armies in the
field.
Tho ndvancing prico is found also
