shot by Win. McAllister, at Walla

wound. McAllister Is in Jail, to await

Fatal Accihiint. George F. Hod
man, a well known, popular young
man residing at Olyinpla, was found
dead at Tumwatcr on the -1th Instant.
An Investigation showed that lie had,
in the dark, fallen down an embank
ment, struck a stump, fractured his
skull and died almost instantly.

mloon, at Dixie Creek, Grant county,
some tlmo ago, between Joseph Old

DiKD. George Cornelius died at Ills
residence near ltoseburg, Douglas
county, March 1st, of consumption.
Mr. Cornelius eamo to Oregon in lfiir,
and was for many years a resident of

his health. Mr. Cornelius was about
forty-nine years old, and was much re
spected forhismany good qualities as a
neighbor and citizen.

since, a man in Portland named John
Carey, was found lying In his bed in
Ills own room, with Ills throat cut and
with severe knife wounds on his left
arm. Thu night before, lie had been
out, anil drank freely of whisky, as
usual, and was heard to goto Ills loom
about 10 o'clock. Late the next day,
his room was entered, and lie was
found In a bed, In a state of stupor,
wounded as above described. At llrst
It was supposed ho had attempted sui
cide, hut Inter developments show that
some one must have attempted to kill
him. The case Is still Involved In
mystery.

from Cincinnati to Thornton, west
Vlrglua, which proved to contain the
remains of n human being head, legs,
arms, bauds etc., completely severed
from tho body. It Is believed to be
tho corpse of a female. The discovery
was made by a portion of tho lid being
knocked oil' In transferring the box,
when a piece, of the mutilated body
dropped out.

of an old man SO years of age, named
.James McNeill, near Shelby City, and
brutally murdered him, splitting his
head open withanaxo and stabbing
him In several places. The purpose
evidently was robbery, ns there was a
small amount of money hi the house.
The villains wore frightened away by
thesereainsoftho wife of the murdered
man. Two were arrested in tho evening
and lodged In Jail, at Danville, and
Identlllcd by the wife of the murdered
man.

der of a wife and three children, hy
the husband, wns committed at a farm
house six miles from this city on .Sat
urday. The wife was found In hod lin
ked, stropglcd, and the ehildicii, aged
six and eight years, and six months

of thu creel;, a short distance from the
house. Thu baby's skull was crushed,
and the two elder were evidently
drowned and alterwards taken from
the creek. Leonard Muguard, thesup
posed murderer of his family, was. ar
rested. An inquest will bo held over
the victim. He Is evidently In-line.
Cincinnati, March 11. A Dayton
special gives the testimony before a
Coroner's Jury of Kll.abcth, aged
seven, and llabbakiik, aged six, sur
viving children of Ix'onard Margunrd.
They say that atler dark on Saturday
night that their father and mother
hunted for all the children, but these
two hid. Theyheaid their p.uciits take

the two eldest, and tho father the ba
by. Them was a light, ami they saw

The two children were hunted for by

a strawstaek at daylight on Sunday,
and staid there till they were found in

mouths old, was found crushed in.
