downtown Seattle for the 44th Annual Seattle
Pride Parade. This year’s theme, “Pride Beyond
Borders,” emphasized inclusivity, acceptance and
bringing people together.

stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity of Olympic National

TUMWATER ARTISAN FAMILY FESTIVAL & THUNDER VALLEY FIRE-
WORKS SHOW: The Artisan Family show is the biggest and best
fireworks festival in the county and it happens every year on
the 4th at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course Driving Range. You’ll
find music, food, games and a so much more waiting for you!

Cully Park Celebrates Grand
Opening Saturday
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) and Verde an-
nounce the grand opening of the new 25-acre Cully
Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30. The huge new city
park is the result of years of community efforts, fund-
raising and advocacy in tandem with Portland Parks
& Recreation funding in the diverse Cully neighbor-
hood.
The Cully and PP&R communities, including Parks
Commissioner Amanda Fritz and Interim Director
Kia Selley, Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Oregon
Senator Ron Wyden, and other elected officials and
special guests will be there. The event will include
live music from Dina y Los Rumberos, plus Native
American drumming and storytelling, a scavenger
hunt, a youth soccer clinic and more. The event is
free, family-friendly and open to all.

Nike and Trail Blazers Team Up to
Revitalize Portland’s Basketball
Courts
Nike and the
Portland Trail
Blazers
have
announced
they are part-
nering
to
refresh
and
upgrade bas-
ketball courts
across 30 Port-
land parks.
Nike’s contribution to the 2018 Portland Basketball
Courts Revitalization Project is a one-time donation
of $750,000 to Portland Parks & Recreation to be used
for the revitalization of the courts. The Portland Trail
Blazers will donate $100,000 a year for the next three
years (2018-2020). Nike and the Trail Blazers will also
continue to support youth programming.
Up to 100 courts across Portland will be repaired
and refreshed with new paint and a new design fea-
turing the name of the park. The backboards will also
be redesigned with the name of the park’s quadrant.
Repairs to the court surface and replacement of back-
boards and hoops will take place as needed.
An anticipated reveal of the renewed court and
backboard design is planned for late summer 2018,
with individual court completions taking place from
fall 2018 through fall 2019.
‘Summer Free For All’ Begins With
Kickoff Celebration June 28
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) will host the
Summer Free For All Kickoff Celebration starting
at 10:30 a.m. June 28 at the new Luuwit View Park,
NE 127th Ave. and Fremont St. The event is free and
open to all and will feature a basketball clinic with
our partners at the Portland Trail Blazers, soccer
and field activities with partners from Nike and the
Timbers/Thorns, a skateboard clinic, arts and crafts,
music, free lunch, and family fun.
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s Summer Free
For All (SFFA) series is back for 2018, with amazing
outdoor citywide events all summer long. Summer
Free For All (SFFA) is a community-building, annu-
al series consisting of free and culturally diverse,
music, movies, and recreation programs. This year,
Movies in the Park and Concerts in the Park will take
place at 43 different parks across the city, and the
Free Lunch + Play program will again provide free
lunches to youth while classes are not in session, in
partnership with five local school districts.
Summer Free For All event guides are online at

other languages (Arabic, Burmese, Simple Chinese,
Nepali, Russian, Spanish, Somali, and Vietnamese).
Students Hold Benefit Performance
for Moms Demand Action
PORTLAND, Ore. – Students tackle the gun issue
head on themselves in A Different Kind of Gun Show,
a fundraiser for Moms Demand Action. The compila-
tion of one acts and poetry about gun violence will be
performed by teens from several area high schools as
well as local adult actors, and produced by Ruth Jen-
kins for Viewers Like You, LLC. Four shows will run
July 20-28 in four venues throughout the Portland
area and Oregon City.
