Ethos Music Center Honors Attorney Dave
Baca with Annual Resonance Award May 2
At Ethos Music Center’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebration gala, prominent Portland attorney Dave Baca will be honored with
the organization’s Resonance Award. Baca, a former managing partner at Davis Wright Tremaine, has served on the Ethos Board of
Directors since 2005. Baca is also the Board Chair at Linfield College.
During Baca’s tenure on the Ethos Board of Directors, the organization has grown into one of the largest music education nonprofits
in the state, serving thousands of children every year through group and individual lessons at Ethos’ North Portland headquarters,
after-school programs in low-income schools, and through the Music Across Oregon program, which places 10 AmeriCorps volunteers
in low-income, rural communities to serve as full-time music instructors.
The award will be presented at Ethos’ annual Ovation Gala on May 2 beginning at 5:30pm, held in the Pavilion Ballroom at the Downtown

April 24 is Voter Registration and
Party Choice Deadline
Multnomah County
reminds voters that
Tuesday, April 24 is
the voter registration
deadline for the May 15
Primary Election. Ore-
gon voters can register
to vote online at www.
oregonvotes.gov/regis-
ter. To register to vote
online an eligible voter
must have a valid Or-
egon driver’s license,
permit, or ID card. The
online
registration
deadline is 11:59 PM on
April 24. Voters can
register to vote on paper with an Oregon Voter Reg-
istration Card. Registration cards can be found at the
elections office, Oregon DMV, post office, or public
library. The deadline for mailing the Oregon Voter
Registration Card is a USPS postmark of April 24.
April 24 is also the party choice deadline. Voters
who wish to vote in a major party’s closed primary
election need to be registered as a member of that
party (Democratic or Republican) by the deadline.
Voters can choose their party affiliation online
at www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote.The Independent
Party of Oregon has chosen to open its primary elec-
tion to voters who are not members of any party for
the May 15 Primary Election. To receive a ballot for
the Independent Party of Oregon you must complete
and return the Voters Not Registered with a Political
Party (PDF) form via, email, mail, fax, or in person to
Multnomah County Elections by 5:00 PM on April 24.
Ballots for the May 15 Primary Election will be
mailed to voters beginning on April 25, 2018. Voters
who will be away from home on election day should
contact the elections office to request an absentee
ballot as soon as possible. Voters can check their
registration status online at www.oregonvotes.gov/
myvote. Registered voters who have moved need to
update their voter registration information online or
fill out a new Oregon Voter Registration Card.
Multnomah County Elections will be opening an
additional location in Gresham for this election. The
Voting Center Express will be open April 30 - May 15
inside the Multnomah County East Building. Voters
will be able to replace a lost ballot, get help voting, ask
questions, or vote in person at the Voting Center Ex-
press in downtown Gresham.

AG Rosenblum Launches New
Resource on Oregon’s New Gun
Safety Laws
Oregon Attorney General last week launched a new
downloadable resource for Oregonians who are con-
cerned about a family or household member who is
in possession of a gun or other weapon. Oregon’s new
“Red Flag Law”, also called the Extreme Risk Protec-
tion Order law, allows a judge to issue an order that
permits the court to
take weapons away
from people who are
deemed a risk to them-
selves or others.
In conjunction with
National Crime Vic-
tims’ Rights Week
(April
8-14
2018),
the Oregon Depart-
ment of Justice re-
leased the new one-
page
handout
to
educate
Oregonians
about the new law. This Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum
downloadable one-pag-
er highlights how the new law works, lists those who
can request an order, and details the timelines for
hearings, and how long the order is effective.
Oregon is one of five states in the nation to have this
type of law. The law is nicknamed “Red Flag Law” for
