Dr. Sorrell, the president of Paul Quinn College in Dallas, will speak from 10:45 a.m. to noon in Terrell Hall Room 122 at the campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St. He will be accompanied by Michelle Harper of the United Negro College Fund, who will be on hand to discuss scholarship opportunities. During his visit to PCC’s Cascade Campus, Sorrell will discuss his experiences as president of Paul Quinn, the value of attending an Historically Black College or University (HBCU), and the importance of servant-leadership and community engagement to the educational process. The event is free and open to the public. Portland News Briefs May Special Election to Take Place May 16 The next election in Multnomah County is a local election. The Special District Election will be held on May 16, 2017 for local school district, water district, and rural fire protection district board members. There are also local measures that may include re- quests for local tax money or proposed changes to laws. Special District Elections are held every odd number year in May. Multnomah County Elections reminds voters that April 25 is the voter registration deadline for the May 16 Special District Election. Oregon voters can regis- ter online at www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote or fill out a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card available at the elections office, public library, Oregon DMV, or post office. Voters can sign up to track their ballot and get a vir- tual “I Voted” sticker. Text, email, or voice alerts tell voters when the county elections office has mailed ballots. Alerts indicate whether the ballot has been accepted for counting or whether it requires fur- ther action by the voter. Inside the “Accepted Ballot” message voters will get access to a special Oregon “I Voted” sticker ready to share on social media. Robert Schenkkan’s ‘Building the Wall’ Opens in Portland April 20 Portland’s triangle productions will be part of the National New Play Network’s “rolling world pre- miere” of Robert Schenkkan’s latest play, “Building the Wall.” The production company joins with other theatres – The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles; Cu- rious Theatre in Denver CO; Forum Theatre in Silver Spring MD; Borderlands Theatre Tucson AZ; City Theatre in Miami FL – just to name a few.
