2017 AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILY NIGHT: Join us for an evening
of celebrating our students and families. There will be dinner,
raffle prizes, and community resources, as well as student per-
formances and awards. This event is for the whole David Doug-

SATURDAY, APRIL 15
ACTIVATE CHURCH EASTER EGG HUNT: Join us at Esther Short
Park in downtown Vancouver for a FREE Easter Egg Hunt that
includes face painting, balloon animals, pictures with the Easter
Bunny and a bouncy slide. Egg hunts for all ages. First egg hunt
for children ages 0 – 3 years old starts at 10 a.m. Esther Short
Park, 415 W. 6th St., Vancouver.
THE HATTER’S EGGSTRAVAGANZA: The fun zone games open at
9 a.m. with food trucks, safety emergency vehicles, Rojo the
Llama and Napoleon the Alpaca and so much more! Bunny will
arrive by helicopter at 10:30 a.m. with egg hunting starting at
11 a.m. There will be more than 20,000 stuffed eggs on-site. Ad-
mission fee includes a photo with the bunny, face painting, mini
golf, balloon artist and much more. $5 per person; children 2 and
under are free. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., The Aerie at Eagle Landing, 10220

TUESDAY, APRIL 18
$35 ARTS TAX DUE: The $35 Arts Education and Access Income
Tax is due April 18. Portlanders can file and pay the Arts Tax
online at www.portlandoregon.gov/artstax.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19
FREE ORAL, HEAD AND NECK CANCER SCREENING: Screening for
oral, head and neck cancer is simple and takes only a few min-
utes. Providence experts are offering these screenings free to
the public. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Jill Lematta Learning Center
at Providence Cancer Center. Walk-ins are welcome, however
registration is strongly recommended. To register or for more

Dr. Michael Sorrell to Talk HBCUs at PCC
Dr. Michael Sorrell will pay a visit to Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus in North Portland April 13. Dr. Sorrell, the president
of Paul Quinn College in Dallas, will speak from 10:45 a.m. to noon in Terrell Hall Room 122 at the campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St. He will
be accompanied by Michelle Harper of the United Negro College Fund, who will be on hand to discuss scholarship opportunities. During
his visit to PCC’s Cascade Campus, Sorrell will discuss his experiences as president of Paul Quinn, the value of attending an Historically
Black College or University (HBCU), and the importance of servant-leadership and community engagement to the educational process.
The event is free and open to the public.

May Special Election to Take Place
May 16
The next election in Multnomah County is a local
election. The Special District Election will be held on
May 16, 2017 for local school district, water district,
and rural fire protection district board members.
There are also local measures that may include re-
quests for local tax money or proposed changes to
laws. Special District Elections are held every odd
number year in May.
Multnomah County Elections reminds voters that
April 25 is the voter registration deadline for the May
16 Special District Election. Oregon voters can regis-
ter online at www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote or fill out
a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card available at
the elections office, public library, Oregon DMV, or
post office.
Voters can sign up to track their ballot and get a vir-
tual “I Voted” sticker. Text, email, or voice alerts tell
voters when the county elections office has mailed
ballots. Alerts indicate whether the ballot has been
accepted for counting or whether it requires fur-
ther action by the voter. Inside the “Accepted Ballot”
message voters will get access to a special Oregon “I
Voted” sticker ready to share on social media. Mult-

City Budget Forums Begin
The City of Portland invites the public to the fol-
lowing public meetings about the annual budget. The
purpose of these meetings is for the Mayor and City
Council to receive testimony from Portland residents
regarding the citywide budget for the upcoming fis-
cal year.

Robert Schenkkan’s ‘Building the
Wall’ Opens in Portland April 20
Portland’s triangle productions will be part of the
National New Play Network’s “rolling world pre-
miere” of Robert Schenkkan’s latest play, “Building
the Wall.” The production company joins with other
theatres – The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles; Cu-
rious Theatre in Denver CO; Forum Theatre in Silver
Spring MD; Borderlands Theatre Tucson AZ; City
Theatre in Miami FL – just to name a few.
Written by Robert Schenkkan (Pulitzer Prize win-
ning playwright – Kentucky Cycle and Tony Award
winning playwright – All the Way about LBJ), this
