There will be 45 free classes each week in 30 parks throughout the city. The full schedule can be found on Portland Parks & Recreation’s website. Registrations are still being accepted at https://apm.activecommunities.com/portlandparks/Activity_Search/58141. Participants will only need to register once, and will be given a bracelet that will allow them to drop in to any class all summer long. The program includes family itness and youth-focused classes in addition to more typical adult itness classes. A number of PP&R instructors speak Spanish, and upon request will incorporate bilingual instruction into their classes. Portland News Briefs Oneness Home Peace Run to Honor Carolyn Leonard Carolyn Leonard, a retired Portland Public School Administrator and ongoing community activist, will be honored Saturday by Oneness Home Peace Run. This award honors individuals from all over the world who have contributed to peace and under- standing and equality. The runners visit commu- nities world wide and over a million people hold the torch and make their own wish for peace. This amazing group of runners, crossing the entire Unites States, will be in Portland to honor Leonard. Leonard has worked for equality and cultural com- petency all over the world, including Jamaica, United Arab, Emirates, Oman, Guyana, Egypt, Ghana, Can- ada and Switzerland; she is an educator, researcher, evaluator, multicultural coordinator and overall community activist. Leonard will hold the torch and make a wish for peace in the community. Other recipients have been Mother Teresa, Pope Frances, Nelson Mandela and hundreds of individuals who have contributed to their communities. This event is being held at Irving Park at 4p.m. June 18. The international group of runners will ar- rive carrying their torches and ready to honor Ms. Leonard as an example of a person promoting peace, equality and friendship. History Workshop Will Teach Participants How to Research the History of Buildings The Clark County Historical Museum and Battle Ground Library are hosting a workshop on how to un- cover the history behind a building, home or property. BOLI announces statewide sick time and minimum wage-related seminars for employers The Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) today announced a series of seminars focused on updates to sick time, minimum wage and other employment laws so that employers can understand and comply with new workplace protections. Starting in July, compliance experts with the agen- cy’s Technical Assistance for Employers program will ofer the low-cost sessions throughout the state.
