has passed away.
The Oregonian reports
Hornbuckle’s longtime
collaborator Louis Pain
announced she died Oct.
4 in hospital. Hornbuckle
has been fighting liver
cancer since 2012. She
was a beloved health
educator with Multnom-
ah County who worked
with teens and families. A celebration of
her life is Oct. 14 at the Crystal Ballroom
in Portland.
Her friends and supporters had planned a
“More Love for Linda” benefit to pay part
of the cost of her medical bills. Instead, it
will be a celebration of her life, Tuesday,
Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., and contributions are still
being taken to pay the bills. Tickets are
$20, with limited VIP tickets, available
through www.TicketTomato.com.
Musicians featured that night include
many of her best friends over the
years: Quarterflash, Liv Warfield, Linda
Hornbuckle Band, Andy Stokes,
LaRhonda Steel, Soul Vaccination,
Patrick Lamb, Norman Sylvester, and
Eddie Martinez.
Famously, Hornbuckle started singing
It's disheartening to believe there are those who have no shoes to
wear or the only shoes they have are 'flip flops.' Sister Gail Thomas,
the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Oregon-washington lay
Council Conference President, learned of 'Soles4Souls' from a co-
worker. Inspired to go beyond the walls of the church, the local lay
Council and the church congregation (the laity) agreed to support
'Soles4Souls'. The congregation at Community A. M. E. Zion Church,
in Vancouver, contributed (200) two-hundred pairs of gently used
shoes for adults / children. These shoes will be distributed to people

Church, which was led by
her
father,
Bishop
Howard
Hornbuckle.
Since then she has thrilled
audiences in the Pacific
Northwest, Europe, Cana-
da and across the U.S.
For many years she
worked a community
health specialist for the
Multnomah County Health Department,
educating teens about HIV, sexually
transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy.
She also served on the board of Better
People, a nonprofit dedicated to helping
formerly incarcerated people find work
and stability.
In recent years Linda performed regu-
larly and recorded in a duo with
award-winning pianist Janice Scroggins,
as well as with the Linda Hornbuckle
Band. A tireless supporter of local grass-
roots
communities,
Hornbuckle
performed at countless fundraisers,
including and especially the Waterfront
Blues Festival benefitting the Oregon
Food Bank.

Third Annual Church Prayer walk

I
f we ask anyone
between five-years old
and one hundred what
“Holiday” falls on October
31st, 100 percent will
resound: “Halloween!” If
we ask the same individuals
what the next day pro-
claims, I guess 90 percent
would stare back bewil-
dered, because All Saint’s
Day, November 1st, remains
unknown by many.
Nevertheless, my Letter to
the Editor in the Daily
News, Jacksonville, North
Caroline, two years ago
brought added attention to
All
Saint’s
Day.
I
announced that my wife and
I would walk once around
one of our city’s landmarks,
Jacksonville
Commons’
Pool, at 6:00 p.m., praying
for God to continue to guide
and bless our nation. I invit-
ed other Christians to join
our ten minute walk. A
small group arrived and
shared our praying. Last
year, another Letter to the
Editor drew more praying
walkers.
This third year, I am send-
ing this same invitation to
every Newspaper and
Christian church email I can
find, throughout America. I
encourage churches to tell
their congregations of this
prayer walk. Further, I
encourage Christians, wher-
ever they worship, to gather
at a landmark in their city or
community. Then, on
November 1 at 6:00 p.m.,
praying Christians can join
spiritually over vast dis-
tances in our Third Annual
All Saint’s Day Prayer
Walk.
What a blessing God will
bestow on our nation if two
or three (thousand) gather in
Christian spirit every All
Saint’s Day.
