Portlanders Step Up for Philippine Relief
A
task force of Filipino American
organizations, multi-racial, and
inter-faith, non-profit organizations,
business leaders, colleges and universities,
city and county agencies in the Portland
Metro area have joined together to form
Portland Emergency Relief Task Force for
the Philippines, or PDX Relief, in response
to the severe damage of Typhoon
Haiyan/Yolanda in the Philippines.
Members of the task Force include, pic-
tured at right, Enrico Tadeo, chair of the
Council of Filipino American Associations
of Oregon and Southwest Washington;
Angelica Lim, educational officer, Portland
Committee for Human Rights in the Philip-
pines, Kayse Jama, executive director of the
Center for Intercultural Organizing, and
Elizabeth Swager, director of the Oregon
Fair Trade Campaign.
In addition, from now through Dec. 11,
Wells Fargo customers can make a donation
for hurricane relief at more than 12,000
Wells Fargo ATMs across most of the
nation, including Oregon and Washington.
Customers will not be charged a fee for
using this service and 100 percent of the
donations will be sent to the American Red
Cross.
Wells Fargo has also decided to extend
until Dec. 14 a temporary fee waiver for
customers who want to send money to the
Philippines to support their friends and fam-
ily. Earlier this month, the company
announced it would temporarily waive all
remittance transfer fees for ExpressSend
transfers from an eligible checking or sav-
ings account to people in the Philippines.
Customers can send funds to their family
or friends in the Philippines at a number of
remittance network members - including
Bank of the Philippine Islands, BDO Uni-
bank, Metrobank, M.Lhuillier and Cebuana
Lhuillier - by calling Wells Fargo Global
Remittance Services at (800) 556-0605,
going online at wellsfargo.com, or visiting a
Wells Fargo bank. The first remittance for a
service agreement must be completed in
person at a bank.
