Mt. Hood Community College has been
selected as the site for a series of Lunch &
Learn Conversations that engage people in
thoughtful, challenging discussions about
ideas critical to our daily lives and our
state’s future. These events are free and
open to the public.
Three conversations have been planned
for November and December, with more to
come in 2014. All conversations are noon –
1:30 p.m. in the Jazz Café, Room AC2059
on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark
St. Parking is free on all MHCC campuses,
no permit required.

Call for Female Spoken
Word Artist
MRG Foundation is seeking a female spo-
ken word artist who lives in Oregon to
perform at MRG’s Justice within Reach
fundraising party in Portland, on Saturday,
May 10, 2014. The selected artist will
receive an award of $2,500 and can include
the use of music and/or mixed media in her
performance.

Fair Thursday, Nov. 7
Straight Path Inc., a non-profit organiza-
tion geared toward assisting ex offenders
and low income individuals with employ-
ment, holds its career fair Thursday, Nov. 7
from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Workforce Net-
work, 5600 NE 42nd Ave in Building #2 of
the auditorium.
The job fair will be sponsored by Our
42nd NPI, Worksource of Oregon, and Port-
land Community College and the featured
employers will be The Port of Portland,
Work Source of Oregon, and many others.
The goal of the job fair is to restore the at
risk community through jobs. Straight Path
wants to target low income individuals,
those with a criminal history, and those who
want to turn their lives around.

Portland Fighting Fillies
Announce Tryout Dates
The Portland Fighting Fillies Women’s
Full Contact football team is excited to
announce dates for upcoming mini-camp
and tryouts.
The Fillies will have tryout/mini camps
for new players on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8
a.m.-10:30a.m., Sunday, Dec. 1, from 9
a.m.-11 a.m., and Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014
from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. All activities will take
place at Milwaukie High School’s Game
Field, 11300 SE 23rd, Milwaukie, Ore.
Interested athletes are encouraged to wear
cleats and weather-appropriate workout
clothes, as well as $30 (cash, check, or card)
to cover the tryout fee, and a copy of their
ID and medical insurance card. The league
requires players have insurance.

Humanities’ ‘Lunch & Learn
Conversations’ Series
The Groundbreaking Kick-off for the Dawson Park Improvement Project is
Thursday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m., between North Vancouver and Williams
Avenues and North Stanton and Morris Streets. Officials say that planned
improvements include a playground, interactive waterplay feature,
barbeques, picnic tables and benches, improved lighting, and
accessibility. “The neighborhood around Dawson once was the heart of
Portland’s African-American population,” the city said in its October
announcement for the event. “The $2.6 million renovation is designed to
restore the park as a key community gathering space by making it more
welcoming, safe, and attractive.”
