State Agencies Host
Portland ‘Scam Jam’ Oct.

Consumers lose billions of dollars each
year to frauds and scams and many of those
scammed are older. According to a 2011
survey of fraud victims, 81 percent of
investment fraud victims and 84 percent of
lottery fraud victims were over the age of
55.
To help prevent these and other scams,
three Oregon agencies are hosting Scam
Jam, an educational program, on Tuesday,
Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the
Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
Scam Jam is an educational and entertain-
ing program and is designed to allow the
audience to learn about today’s scams and
schemes, such as Medicare fraud, insurance
and investment fraud, online and door-to-
door scams, identity theft and other scams
that target older consumers.
The Scam Jam event, sponsored by AARP
Oregon, DCBS, and the Oregon Depart-
ment of Justice, is free but participants must
register; go to www.ScamJamOregon.com
or call 1-877-926-8300 (toll-free).
Participants will also receive free materi-
als and refreshments.

a Retail Job Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 30,
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gregory Forum
at the college’s Oregon City campus. Peo-
ple seeking work in retail are welcome to
attend and meet with potential employers.
The CCC Retail Job Fair is open to the
public and there is no cost to attend. Job
seekers are encouraged to bring a resume
and to dress as they would for a job inter-
view.
The job fair is hosted by Clackamas Com-
munity College, the ACT-On retail grant,
the CASE grant and the CCC Career Cen-
ter.
