Memorial Day Ceremony
to Recognize Local WWII
Veterans
The public is invited to a Memorial Day
Ceremony on Monday, May 27, from 1 -
2:15 p.m., at the Washington County Fair
Complex. The collaboration among Wash-
ington County, American Legion and
Veterans of Foreign Wars will honor our
nation’s brave service members who made
the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Program highlights include recognition of
Purple Heart recipients, a prisoners of war
ceremony, 21-gun salute and a focus on
Washington County’s role in World War II.
The names of the 129 WWII service mem-
bers from Washington County who were
killed in action will be read. Personal stories
of local living WWII vets from the Mer-
chant Marine, Navy, Army, Marines and
Army Air Corp will also be shared.
Among the participants will be leaders
from the Hillsboro Veterans of Foreign
Wars and American Legion, Hillsboro
Mayor Jerry Willey and Board of Commis-
sioners
Chairman
Andy
Duyck.
Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici will
give the keynote address.
The Memorial Day Ceremony will take
place rain or shine. Attendees may park in
TriMet’s lot at the Fair Complex/Hillsboro
Airport MAX Station. For more informa-

Portland Police Bureau
News Release
for Grand Floral Parade The Rose Festival
Grand Floral Parade is scheduled for Satur-
day June 8, 2013, and the Portland Police
Bureau is continuing to seek volunteers to
help along the parade route.
Volunteers are needed from 6:30 a.m. to
2 p.m.to work fixed barricade positions and
walk or ride bicycles along the parade route.
Interested volunteers need to fill out the
application form and return it to Emily Mor-
ris, Volunteer Coordinator for the Portland
Rose Festival.
RACC Celebrates New
Mural on N. Albina and
Mississippi
The artist collective, SpaceCraft Mission
to Arts, has completed one of the largest
murals funded by RACC’s Public Art Mural
Program and will celebrate this collabora-
tive project with a community celebration
3:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 24 in the grassy
field across the street southwest of the proj-
ect site. The mural is located on the west
wall of the City of Portland’s Bureau of
Transportation Maintenance facility (3150
N. Mississippi).
Travelers on N. Mississippi Ave between
N. Fremont St. and N. Monroe St. will see
the mural by car, foot, and bike. It is also
visible to Northbound drivers on I-5 and I-
405. The mural will serve as a gateway to
the Historic Mississippi Business District
and Boise neighborhood and discourage
graffiti
This project was funded in part by a Port-
land Graffiti Abatement grant and the
RACC Public Art Murals Program.

Children’s Awareness
Day” in Oregon, and
families are
encouraged to take
25 minutes to talk to
their children about
safety and abduction prevention as part of the Take 25
