Free Community Health
Screenings
Oregon Lions Clubs are working with the
Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation
to combat preventative blindness and deaf-
ness in the community through free health
screenings. The Oregon Lions Mobile
Health Screening Program will provide free
health screenings to the adult public in the
following areas: visual acuity, hearing,
blood pressure, diabetes (with a 3 hour fast)
and glaucoma. Walk-ins welcome, no regis-
tration or appointments necessary.
This is the only free screening program of
its kind in Oregon. It will serve approxi-
mately 50,000 Oregonians this year at over
300 events in nearly every county in the
state.
Many community members lacking pri-
mary care are unaware they have health
conditions that threaten their sight, jobs,
quality of life and potentially their lives.
The MHSP has and will continue to posi-
tively impact lives through the early detec-
tion that we provide.
The events are: March 3, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.;
St. Charles Health Fair, St. Charles Catholic
Church, 5310 NE 42nd Ave. Portland;
March 9, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., PCC Community
Health Fair, PCC Cascade Campus, 705
North Killingsworth St. Portland; March 18,
11 a.m.-3 p.m., Diabetes Awareness Health
Screening State Capital, 900 Court St. NE,
Salem.

Wedding Dress Sale for
Charity
Portland-based Brides for a Cause will be
hosting a Charity Wedding Dress Sale on
March 9-10 at The Laurelhurst Club in Port-
land to support Wish Upon A Wedding, a

national non-profit organization based in the
San Francisco area dedicated to providing
weddings and vow renewals for individuals
facing terminal illness and other serious
life-altering circumstances.
The wedding dress sale will feature more
than 800 new and gently used wedding
dresses donated to Wish Upon A Wedding to
be resold at discounted prices by its partner
Brides for a Cause, as a way to help raise
funds for the charity. Dresses will be offered
at discounted prices up to 75 percent off the
retail prices. Prices will start at just $150
and will feature a variety of designers and
styles. Sizes will range from 2-20. Fifty
percent of the proceeds will go directly to

Contributions of wedding dresses 2005
and newer will be accepted, donations may
be dropped off during the event at The Lau-
relhurst Club.

Wish Upon A Wedding is searching for a
local wish recipient in the Portland area who
is in need of a dream wedding. Couples
who are faced with a life threatening illness
or other serious life-altering circumstance
are encouraged to apply for a wedding wish

Wish Upon A Wedding has granted a wed-
ding wish for a Portland couple in 2010 and
is eager to grant another wedding for a local
couple in conjunction with this charity
event.

Celebrating History
Celebrating one hundred years of history nationwide, the Delta Sigma
Theta Portland chapter was honored last week by special proclamation by
Sen. Ron Wyden, presented at the June Key Delta Community Center.
Before the ceremony, Wyden posed with chapter president Vera Pool and
Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith. Afterwards they held an
impromptu Town Hall meeting on important Congressional issues.

The company’s mission is to provide edu-
cation beyond the classroom by offering
academic support services through one-on-
one and group tutoring sessions. The serv-
ices will be located the North/Northeast
Business Associations’ new Kings’ Busi-
ness and Cultural Center located at 311 N
Ivy St.
EDu2tor will begin offering tutoring ses-
sions starting March 2. The staff is avail-
able to tutor students in various grades level

and subject areas, as well as preparation
courses for the SAT and ACT. Students can
receive tutoring starting at $18 for an hour
and half on weekends and schedule individ-
ual tutoring through appointments.
The company hopes to offer support
beyond tutoring services for students and
families through their weekend drop-in ses-
sions and hopes families will come visit the
location.
