African American
Homeownership Fair
If you want to own your own home some
day, you can start taking steps toward your
goal at the African American Homeowner-
ship Fair, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday,
Oct. 27, at Emanuel Hospital Atrium, 501
N. Graham St.
More than 50 housing professionals will
be on hand to answer questions, point you to
resources and lead workshops for first-time
homebuyers, and seniors interested in
reverse mortgages. Professionals say that
despite the housing crisis, homeownership
remains an important way to build family
wealth.
Homeowners who have suffered during
the economic downturn, and are struggling
to avoid foreclosure, will also find free
advice and assistance at the fair. Chase fore-
closure advisors will be available all day to
talk to homeowners with Chase loans. To

Association Workshops
on Bullying and Hostile
Work Environments
Employers are asking for help with work-
place bullying, boundaries and emotional
blackmail. Two training classes will coach
employers on how to manage these behav-
iors: Nov. 14 in Salem and Nov. 15 in Port-

land. Both classes are from 9 a.m. to noon.
Advance registration is required.
The classes will cover: legal considera-
tions, morale and engagement concerns,
policy samples, specific skills to address the
manipulative employee, exploration of
styles and solutions, and moving toward a
positive culture.

Explores Magic and
Meaning of Live
Theater
Join actors, directors, theater students and
community members to enjoy live perform-
ance and lively conversation as part of the
August Wilson Red Door Festival, Wednes-
day, Nov. 14, 6 – 7:45 p.m. at the North
Portland Library, 512 NE Killingsworth St.
Attendees will discuss what makes stage
performance so special in a world where
millions of movies, TV shows, and videos
exist at our fingertips.
The video with the most views will win
tickets to an August Wilson Red Door Festi-
val event.
Attendees may also enter to win a raffle
featuring a $50 gift card to Pok Pok Noi, to
be drawn at the end of the event.

Local neighborhood children and children of University of Portland faculty
and staff are invited to trick-or-treat through the University of Portland
residence halls on Halloween night, Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 – 7:30
p.m. HALLoween is open to all children sixth grade and under. All children
wishing to participate in HALLoween must be accompanied by a
parent/guardian. Picture identification is required upon check in for all
parents/guardians. Access to the residence halls cannot be granted to
those who do not have a picture ID. All attending will be required to check
in under the tent in front of the Chiles Center. G’hosts (student escorts) will
direct children and families to the residence halls. Pets are not allowed in
the residence halls. If you would like more information or have questions,

students and parents last year. This is an

Oregon Convention Center.
MT. HOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO HOST THIRD
ANNUAL SALMON FESTIVAL. The Third Annual
Celebration of Salmon and the environment will
be from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Multnomah Falls.
Displays and information will be geared to
children, but everyone is welcome to attend this
fun, free event.

HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR. Carnival,
