NAYA Housing-to-
Homeownership Fair
The Native American Youth and Family
Center (NAYA) holds its 7th Annual Native
American
Housing-to-Homeownership
Fair, Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 3
p.m. at the NAYA Family Center, 5135 NE
Columbia Blvd.
This year’s theme is “Establishing Roots
for the Seventh Generation,” and empha-
sizes the importance of having a home for
Native people. A home is not only a place to
live, but also provides a connection to the
land and the community. Homes root us to
the region we live in and help provide a
sense of stability, connection and well-
being.
The event will include the following
opportunities:
— Drawings for $2,500 down payment
assistance grants and $400 rent or mortgage
assistance grants;
— Workshops on locating affordable

buying professionals, local non-profits,

BOLI Employer
Assistance Offers New
Supervisor Training
The Bureau of Labor and Industries “New
Supervisor Training Series,” teaches partic-
ipants everything they need to know to take
on supervisory or management roles in Ore-
gon workplaces. The six month, one-half-
day-per-month program covers all aspects
of managing a team of employees according
to the law—from fundamentals of handling
protected leave time to coaching and moti-
vating less-productive employees.
BOLI’s Technical Assistance for Employ-
ers Program provides training for employers
and managers at all levels, from supervisors
to CEOs. Most seminars focus on under-
standing specific legal requirements—such
as civil rights laws or protected leave provi-
sions—but the program also offers cus-
tomized training as well as the New
Supervisor Training Series, which will run
parallel sessions, totaling 18 hours over six
months, in Portland and Salem. The Salem
series will provide additional insights for
public sector employers like local govern-
ments and state agencies, although neither
set of classes is limited to one type of
employer. Specific details of the class and
registration information are available at
www.oregon.gov/BOLI/TA.
