Women in Trades
Career Fair
The Northwest’s largest nontra-
ditional career fair celebrates its
20th year with a weekend of
events including an open activities
day for women and girls at the
NECA-IBEW Electrical Training
Center, 16021 NE Airport Way in
Portland.
Admission is free, with free
parking, childcare and a free shut-
tle from the Gateway Transit
Center located at 9900 NE Mult-
nomah.
The Fair’s two student days on
Thursday, May 17, and Friday,
May 18 required pre-registration
and are already full. Saturday,
May 19th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00
p.m., however, is open to women
and their families and will focus
on events and activities offering
information about how to get start-
ed in these blue collar careers. A
special information session about
OTI’s free 7-week pre-apprentice-
ship class for women takes place
at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 19.
More than 2,000 girls and
female job seekers are expected to
participate in hands-on activities
and learn about apprenticeship and
job training opportunities in the
building, construction, mechani-
cal, technical and utility related
trades.

accepted for the 2012 Val Joshua
Racial Justice Award and the Val
Joshua Youth Social Justice
Award.
The Val Joshua Racial Justice
Awards are presented annually to
individuals, businesses, or organi-
zations who have demonstrated
leadership working to eliminate
racism and promote peace, justice,
freedom, and dignity for all peo-
ple. The first award was given in
1989 to Val Joshua in recognition
of her lifelong commitment to and
work for the elimination of
racism.
Who's eligible?
-Any adult or youth who is prac-
ticing racial justice in Clark
County.
-Val Joshua Racial Justice
