Teen Summit Coming
up Saturday
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion
Churches of Oregon and Washington host a
teen summit/young adult assembly called
“Teens ‘N’ Jeans,” Saturday, Jan. 14 from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., designed to give voice to
the younger generations in the community.
The convocation-style event will allow
13 to 23-year-olds to gather to learn about
and discuss issues affecting young people
c
o
including gang violence, health and well-
ness, finance and other material presented
by community advocates and industry pro-
fessionals.
Those planning to attend are asked to
bring a pair of gently used or new jeans
and two cans of food to donate to local
homeless shelters.
Teen ‘N’ Jeans will be held at the Clark
Public Utilities Building—1200 Fort
Vancouver Way, Vancouver, WA 98661.
This is a no-cost event and open to the
public.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birth-
day, activists are agitating for release of
Ford, a member of the Portland Seven,
plead guilty to “seditious conspiracy and
levying war against American and allied
forces,” after traveling to China and
attempting to enter Afghanistan to alleged-
ly join the Taliban.
As of October 4, 2011, he had served
nine years.
