Portland Center Stage
Hosts Colored Pencils
Art and Culture Night
Colored Pencils invites Portlanders to its
monthly event with food, music and poetry,
July 29, at Portland Center Stage, 128 NW
Eleventh Ave., in the Ellen Bye Studio
Theatre, from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Food is by Spice of Africa, with open mic
by: Sivheng and Kilong Ung, Cambodian
poetry; Nhi Vu and Phan Ngoc, Vietnamese
dancers; Nat Hulskamp with Seffarine,
Arabic music; Gauri Rajbaida, Nepali
acoustic guitar; Salyna Magar and Sudin
Maharjan, Nepali dance; Randa BenAziz,
contemporary Moroccan solo; Polo
Catalani’s talking story; Agnieszka Laska
Polish group dancers, a modern multimedia
dance company; and Ashia Grzesik, Polish
musician.

Challenge Camp is a free five-day leader-
ship experience designed for junior and
high students to learn about self-leadership
and various opportunities available at
school and in their communities to imple-
ment their new skills and knowledge.

The Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland offers free spay/neuter surgeries for
kittens through July 22 at five locations around the Portland/Vancouver
metro area. Caretakers of stray or feral cats can take advantage of this
offer as well. Kittens need to be at least eight-weeks old and weigh 2.25
pounds. Mom and Dad cats are also included in this summertime
adventure and can be spayed/neutered for only $10. For a cat owner to
qualify, they must receive government assistance (such as Medicaid, wIC,
food stamps, SSI, Section 8 public housing, AFDC or TANF), and live in
Multnomah, washington, Clackamas, or Clark County. Individuals feeding
unowned feral/stray cats need not meet income requirements. Call 1-800-
345-SPAy for a cat you own; or 503-797-2606 for feral cats. Free
spay/neuter appointments will scheduled for July 18 through 22 only.
