At Courthouse Ceremonies
U. S, (Jains 25 New Citizens
"This its a good time and a
good place to become a citizen,"
25 newly naturalized Americans
were told during ceremonies at
the Lane County Courthouse
Wednesday morning.
The speaker was Hans Linde,
who was naturalized 20 years
ago after coming to this coun
try from Denmark, He is now
an associate professor in the
University of Oregon's School
of Law.
"The fear and hate of minori
ty groups that grew out of
World War I is disappearing,"
Linde told the new citizens.
"And in Oregon, where almost
everyone is new, it will be that
much easier to become a mem
ber of , the community on your
own merits."

man presided over the cere
monies in which persons from
11 foreign countries took the
oath of allegiance. Germany led
the list of contributing nations
with six new citizens.
The group was welcomed by
another naturalized citizen, Ina
Randolph, who performed her
first official act as head of the
new Department of Records and
Elections by greeting the citi
zens on behalf of the county
government.
"Speaking from experience,"
Mrs. Randolph said, ' I m sure
you'll find that the more you

throughout Oregon.
A filmed program called "The
Sounds, of Freedom" featuring
music by the Gleemen will be
presented on television stations
throughout Oregon this week.
In this area, the program wilt
be at 11 a.m. Thursday on sta
tion KEZI. The program was
presented by KVAL-TV Wednes
day. -
The Freedom Bond drive,
urging the purchase of more
U.S. saving bonds, will con
tinue through July 4. H. San-
ford Saari, president of Citizens
Bank in Eugene, is Lane coun
ty chairman.
The television series Is being
sponsored by the Oregon State
Bankers Assn. in observance of
the 100th anniversary of the
present banking system in the
nation.
Collision Victim
In Fair Condition
A 50-year-old Springfield mo
torist, whoso pick-up collided
Tuesday afternoon with a log
truck at the intersection of
Mill and Centennial Boulevard,
was listed in "fair" condition
Wednesday at the McKenzie-
Willamette Memorial Hospital.
The motorist, Belton L. Park
er, 181 N. 17th St., received
multiple lacerations about the
head and on the hands and a
possible back injury, hospital
officials said.
According to Springfield po
lice, Parker, traveling east on
Centennial Boulevard collided
with a truck driven by Kenneth
Holmes , 53, 4750 Franklin
Blvd. Holmes was driving south
on Mill at the time of impact.

States from Sweden as a girl.
Councilman Robert Deverell
extended a welcome on behalf
of the City of Eugene. And
Russel Tompkins, a teacher in
naturalization classes sponsored
by the Civitan Club and the
city's schools, urged his former
students to start their partici
pation "with face-to-facc rela
tionships." Linde, the morning's princi
pal speaker, told the group that
prejudice toward immigrants
has become "unacceptable" in
modern America. "We face a
much greater crisis in trying
to bring full citizenship to the
19 million Americans whose
skins are black," Linde said.
