Missionary Speaks
Tuesday at Church
A Presbyterian missionary who has spent more than 30 years
in the Orient will be in Eugene Tuesday for programs at Cen
tral United Presbyterian Church. 14th Avenue and Ferry Streets.
The missionary is Florence L. Logan, who will be a guest
of the Women's Assn. of the church at an invitational tea at
9:30 a.m. Tuesday. At 10 a.m., she will give an address, open
to everyone at the church.
Miss Logan, a native of the Northwest and a graduate of the
University of Washington in Seattle, entered missionary serv
ice in 1921 after study at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles
and Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. ,
The Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions first assigned
her to China, where she served at Paoting, near Peking. World
Was II forced her to return to the United States in 1942, and
she then served on the staff of Eastshore Community Church in
Richmond, Wash.
Miss Logan returned to Paoting in 1947, where she contin
ued evangelistic work, opened a hostel for refugee girls, started
a child welfare center and conducted Bible classes.
In 1952, she was transferred to Formosa, serving there with
the Church of Christ through the Canadian Presbyterian
Church. Her work then centered in the Bible school and evan
gelistic work with Mandarin-speaking refugees from the Chi
nese mainland. She also worked with a village of Chinese ab
origines. Tuesday's program, the Presbyterian women emphasized,
would be of special interest to many women's groups due to
the recent study of many denominations on the theme, "On the
Rim of East Asia." Taiwan, or Formosa, was one of the focal
points of this study. '
