11 Nominated for Awards
JUNCTION CITY Eleven northern Lane County men have
been nominated for awards to be given by the Junction City
Junior Chamber of Commerce at its annual Distinguished Serv
ice Awards banquet Wednesday.
Nominated for the Senior Citizen Award:
Ben Masengill, 36, Victory Drive, dairy inspector for the
City of Eugene Health Dept., recommended by Goldson Grange.
J. Henry Minkler, 55, 887 Maple St., an employe of the
Bureau of Public Roads. He was recommended for the awrd
by AF & AM Lodge No. 128.
Eugene "Bill" Nelson, 50, 1501 Prairie Rd., owner ai?d
operator of Nelson's Shell Service, recommended by Amcricai;
Legion Post 61.
Dr. G. F. Fletchall, 48, 881 W. Sixth Ave., a physician,
recommended by the Junction City Grange, Epsilon Sigma
Alpha, Business and Professional Women and American Legion
Post 61.
Nominated for the Junior Citizen Award:
Paul Nordling Jr., 32, 785 Bryant St., co-owner of Ben
Franklin store, recommended by Faith Lutheran Church.
John R. Patterson, 34, 1060 Spruce St., lineman for
Pacific Power and Light Co., recommended by Epsilon Sigma
Alpha.
Gerald Edwards, 2400 River Rd., 33, farmer, recom
mended by Junction City Grange.
Bingham Nelson, 27, 651 Juniper St., Mobile Oil dis
tributor, recommended by Oasis Lodge IOOF No. 41.
James Pate, 31, 271 Cedar St., mechanic for Mills Motor
Co., recommended by AF & AM Lodge No. 128.
Verne Andrcsen, 32, 1287 Laurel St., assistant manager
Junction City branch of U..S. National Bank, recommended by
Kiwanis.
The Rev. Gilbert Knox, 29, 1253 Nyssa St., minister of
the Junction City Christian Church, recommended by his
church.
Carl Lingo, vice president of the Jaycees who disclosed the
names of the nominees, said the Distinguished Service Awards
banquet was being combined with two other annual Jaycce
events, namely Jaycee Week and Bosses' Night.
Ho said these activities were being combined because the
Junction City Jaycees are a relatively small club and didn't have
membership to handle three separate activities.
The banquet will begin at 1 p.m. in Scandia House, until
this week called the Legion Cafe. Scandia House is a new

Two incidents of theft in
southeast 'Eugene, one from a
pickup and the other from a
house, were reported to Eugene
police over the weekend.
Richard McCool, 2865 Kincaid,
reported tools valued at $45
stolen from the cab of his pick
up parked in front of his resi
dence. McCool said the theft
occurred sometime . Saturday
night or Sunday morning.
The theft of a .32 caliber pis
tol was reported from the resi
dence of Robert Taylor, 3990
Kincaid, cither Friday or Sat
urday. The pistol was valued at
$35. The burglars entered the
Taylor house through an un
locked door.
20 Injured in Crash

Scandinavian restaurant operated by Edmund Hansen who
will serve banquet goers a Danish dinner. Some 70 persons are
expected to attend.
Featured speaker will be Albion Ringo, of Gervais, inter
national director for the Oregon Jaycees, and state director of
the Manpower Training Program.
Other awards to be presented Wednesday are the Merit
award, which goes to the Jaycee who made the greatest con
tribution to the club during the past year, and the winner of
the Jaycee-sponsored Christmas tree lighting contest will be
announced.
Gerald Thomson, a charter member of the Jaycees here
and a state Jaycce director, will be master of ceremonies.
Judges for both the Junior and Senior Citizen Awards are
Mayor Steve Tyler, Max Strauss, Thomas Harper, Homer Dixon
and Oral Ganvillc.
Two Placed
On Probation
Two men were placed on pro
bation for three years each in
Lane County Circuit Court Mon
day. They had pleaded guilty to
felony charges.
Charles Strange, 47, of no
known permanent address, had
pleaded guilty to a charge of ob
taining money under false pre
tenses. He was charged with
cashing a worthless check for
$50 at Bon Marche Russells in
Eugene on Nov. 2.
Monterue Kenneth Money, 21,
of Rt. 3 Box 300, Eugene, was
placed on probation after plead
ing guilty to two charges of
burglary.
He was charged with burglar
izing two houses in Springfield
on Sept. 3 and Sept. 24. 1
Man Enters Plea
To Support Charge
Richard Lee Noblit, 20, of
Cheshire, entered a plea of in
nocent in Lane County Circuit
Court Monday to a charge of
failing to provide support for
his four children.

after pleading guilty last week
