Rural Electric Cooperatives
To Meet in Eugene Monday
The regional meeting of the
National Rural Electric Coop
erative Ass'i. will be held in
Eugene Monday and Tuesday.
The session will be attended
by delegates from Alaska,
Washington, Oregon, Califor
nia, Montana, Idaho, Nevada
and Utah.
Information of special inter
est to power use advisors, home
economists, office managers
and other key personnel will be
given, according to the advance
agenda.
One of the highlights is ex
pected to be an address Tues
day morning by Norman Clapp,
chief of the Rural Electrifica
tion Administration.
Meetings will be held in the
Eugene Hotel. Gov. Mark Hat
field and Eugene Mayor Edwin
Cone are expected to make the
opening remarks at 8 a.m.,
Monday.

Here Monday
A blood donor program will
be conducted Monday and
Tuesday among employes of
the Southern Pacific Railroad
in the Eugene office.
Dr. Vance M. Strange, chief
turgeon of the Southern Pa
cific Hospital Dept., in a let
ter to employes, said:
"Over 140 units of whole
blood are being used each
month at the General Hospi
tal and at many points where
emergency treatment is fur
nished in the care of contrib
utors of the Southern Pacific
Hospital Department."
IO Professor Contributes
To Book on Group Stresses
Robert Dubin, research pro
fessor of sociology in the Uni
versity of Oregon, is one of the
contributors to a book on the
various strains and stresses be
tween and within groups.
The book, edited by Muzafer
Sherif, director of the Institute
of Group Relations and research
professor of psychology at the
University of Oklahoma, wai
published In New York.
The 13 contributors to the
book are top social scientists
who presented papers during a
1961 interdisciplinary lecture
series in social psychology at
the University of Oklahoma.
Since friendship or hatred,
alignment or hostility between
human groups are the most
fateful and the most compli
cated in human relations today,
the aspects are presented in the
chapters written by anthropolo
gists, psychologists, sociologists,
and political scientists.
The book presents detailed
studies of groups and organiza
tions, leaders and followers, and
their negotiations, alignments
and conflicts in political, indus
trial and cultural areas.
Dubin's contribution is en
titled "Leadership in Union
Management Relations as an
Intergroup System." It deals
with the behavior of union and
management leaders in collec
tive bargaining.
