Auxiliary Convenes Here
Fortieth anniversary of the
Auxiliary to Oregon State Phar
maceutical Assn. is being cele
brated this week as the group
gathers in Eugene for meetings
in conjunction with the four
day Oregon State Pharmaceut
ical Assn. convention.
Mrs. Robert Lammer. of Eu
gene will be hostess to the
group at a tea at her home Sat
urday afternoon when new of
ficers will be installed. Red
roses will be used in decoration
to carry out the ruby 40th an
niversary theme.
Pouring will be Mrs. Walter
Raines of Portland, who has
served this year as president,
Mrs. A. J. Lammcrs of Albany
and Mrs. Richard Brandis of
Bend, wife of the incoming
president of the men's group.
New officers will be: Mrs.
Burton Lundahl, president; Mrs.
Louis Johnson, first vice presi
dent; Mrs. Meredith Fisher, sec
ond vice president; Mrs. Richard
Kaegi, recording secretary; Mrs.
Robert Sells, corresponding sec
retary; Mrs. E. E, Lothrop,
treasurer.
State officers were hostesses
at a coffee hour this morning t
the Eugene Hotel. Wives of the
Lane County Pharmaceutical
Assn. members entertained at
at a "Crown Jewel Luncheon"
this noon at Eugene County
Club. Mrs. Claude Gcrlach of
Springfield gave the invocation
and Miss Sabine Phelps of Eu
gene sang so'.os, accompanied
by Miss Marianne Woodson.
The women will join the men's
groups for other social conven
tion events which include a
dinner-dance Friday evening
and the President's Banquet
Saturday evening. Mrs. Mere
dith Fisher of Portland and
Mrs. Lammers are In charge of
women's activities.
ABWA Gives
Scholarship
Emerald Empire Chapter,
American . Business Women's
Assn., announces proceeds from
a recent patio dinner will com
plete the four-year scholarship
for its scholarship recipient,
Miss Loretta Haniuk. Miss Hani
Ik will be graduated this sum
mer from Sacred Heart Hospital
School of Nursing.
The program is in line with
the aims of ABWA to assist de
serving young women in furthcr
ingtheir education.
The Emerald Empire Chap
ter, with members in Eugene
and Springfield, is the charter
chapter in this area. A second
unit, sponsored by them, is be
ing organized by Miss Hazel
Whyte, field executive from na
tional headquarters in Kansas
City, Mo. Anyone interested in
membership may contact her at
the Eugene Hotel or call any
member of the present group.

Re-Elected

Mrs. Howard Ramey of Eu
gene was re-elected associate di
rector of Delta Delta Delta, in
ternational collegiate fraternity,
at the 74th anniversary conven
tion the past week in Hot
Springs, Ark.
Mrs. John Martin of Mont
gomery, Ala., was named presi
dent. Mrs. J. L. Perry Jr. of
Nashville, Tenn., was re-elected
collegiate vice president and
Mrs. Robert McVay of Minneap
olis, Minn., was re-elected alum
nae vice president. Mrs. J. C.
Hall of Peoria, 111., who served
as convention chairman this
year, was named membership
director and Mrs. J. D., Searles
of LaVale, Md., finance director.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Miller
of Eugene were honored at
church service and reception at
Messiah Lutheran Church mark
ing their 50th wedding anniver
sary. The couple was married
June 2, 1912, in Clarinda, Iowa.
Hosts for the anniversary were
the couple's three children and
their families: Mr. and Mrs. Lyle
Miller and Jenny of Altadena,
Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mil
ler, Alvin, Ron and Shirley of
Junction City; and Mr. and Mrs.
Elmer Stccge, Roy, Ken, Joyce
and Janice of Springfield.
The church was decorated
with bouquets of white and gold
chrysanthemums, stock, varie
gated privat, and greenery
sprayed with gold.
The brief church ceremony,
with Pastor Lawrance F. Rohl
fing officiating, began with the
lighting of candles by the cou
ple's two oldest granddaugh
ters, Shirley Miller and Joyce
Steege. The Millers were ush
ered to the front of the church
by their oldest grandson, Alvin
Miller. Other ushers were
grandsons Ron Miller, Roy and
Ken Steege.
The three children and
daughter-in-law of the couple
sang "0 Perfect Love," accom
panied by sister-in-law Mrs.
Ben Goecker of Clarinda, Iowa.
She also played organ music
throughout the service.
The couple received their 165
guests in the parish hall of the
church. Mrs. Miller wore a dress
of robin's egg blue crepe with
matching necklace and corsage
of gold-toned orchids.
The reception table was dec
orated with a tiered cake, made
by Mrs. Charley Wheeler of
Springfield, and candelabra with
gold candles. Mrs. Dan Goecker
of Oakland, Calif., served the
cake. Mrs. Louise Janssen, a
sister, poured coffee and Mrs.
Herman Kunkel, a long-time
friend, served punch.
Mrs. Philip Buck sang several
selections during the reception.
Mrs. Lawrance Rohlfing was in
charge of the guest book.
Out-of-town guests were: Mr.
and Mrs. Dan Goecker of Oak
land, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Ben
Goecker of Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs.
Louise Janssen of Garbcr, Okla.;
Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Janssen and
daughter, Carolyn, of Holyrood,
Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sand
wick of Portland; Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Clark, Betty and Cheryl,
Dallas.
The Millers moved to Oregon
in 1949 from Roswell, N. M. Mr.
Miller is now 74, and Mrs. Mil
ler is 71. They have been life
long members of the Lutheran
Church.
Reception Planned for Ray Lindleys
TRENT Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Lindley, who were married Sat
urday in the First Christian
Church at Hermiston, will be
honored at a reception in Trent
Church of Christ Sunday at 3
p.m. standard, 4 p.m. daylight.
Friends and relatives of the
couple are invited to attend.
Miss Barbara McLeod and
Miss Barbara Delp will cut the
cake. Miss Merrillyn Doane will
pour coffee and Miss Carol
Lindley will pour punch. Miss
Joan Keeney will be in charge
of the guest book. Assisting will
be Miss Opal Miller, Miss Edie
Miller, and Mrs. Don Kimball.
Mrs. Lindley before her mar
riage was Linda McPherson,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
McPherson of Kennewick,
Wash. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Lindley of Trent
The couple will live in Eu
gene where he will continue
with his studies at Northwest
Christian College in the fall.
He is employed for the summer
at a Trent mill.
Steak Broiling Tips
Steaks for broiling or grilling
should be at least 1 inch thick.
To prevent the meat from curl
ing, make several slashes into
the fat edge, but do not cut
into the lean. Turn steaks only
once, and use tongs or a fork
inserted into the fat edge.
