fields. Rear's controls the patent

of Lebanon, Ore. With the Flori
da sale, the local firm now has
been stringing machines placed
in all four corners of the nation,
Jim Rear stated. Stake pressing
machines produced by Rear's also

trol black cherry aphids has
been added to the recom
mended pest control pro
gram for cherries this spring,
says Robert Every, Oregon
State College entomology
specialist.
The specialist reports 4 per
cent Malathion dust at 40 to
50 pounds per acre before
trees reach the "popcorn
stage" is better than the
previous control program
with nicotine sulfate. Less
than 50 pounds will be neces
sary for young orchards.
Even though Malathion is
one of the organic phosphate
materials, it is "reasonably
safe to handle," Every says.

should give careful attention
to manufacturers' instruc

pointment of new western Ore
gon distributors, the firm of Ran
dolph and Cole which is tem
porarily located at 603 McKinley
St., Eugene.
Familiarly known as "Tim-

all major market areas in Oregon

cral Home Loan Bank of San

This forecast was given at a
news conference by directors
from California, Nevada, Oregon,
Montana, Utah, Washington and
Wyoming, here to attend the an
nual meeting of stockholders.
Frank S. McWilliams of Spo
kane, chairman of the board,
said there is no indication that
housing activity will be overdone
in the area in view of the con
tinuing population gains and the
steady increase in formation of
new families.
Kirk Reynolds of Portland
agreed that housing activity is
on the increase.
Gerrit vandcr Elide of Taco-
ma, said home owning is spread
ing because of the low down
payments, that people are mov
ing from public housing projects
into their own homes and that
there is an increase in the de
mand for conventional home
loans as against GI and FHA

than a year ago, the Unemploy
ment Compensation said Friday,
The totals were slightly under
those for two years ago.
The commission said the lum
ber industry employed 75,700
workers, biggest February
record except for 1951. The in
dustry total was 3,000 more than
