New Building Rises
On East Eleventh
A new two-story office building
is going on the old DuBuy Place
at 260 E. 11th Ave.
The owners are Helen Manerud
Shaw, whose father was the orig
inal owner of the property; John
D. McBurney and B. Strassmeier,
partners in the Tromp and Mc
Kinley Insurance Agency: ana
law partners Stanley R. Darling,
Otto F. Vonderheit and A. T.
Goodwin.
The lower floor will be occupied
by the insurance agency and the
law firm. The upstairs will De
rented to other firms.
McBurney and Darling said this
week that they are "following the
trend of moving offices to areas
where parking space is avail
able." Their parking lot will have
space for 28 cars.
The Tromp and McKinley
agency has been in several loca
tions on Broadway since 1929.
The law offices were in a build
ing between 8th Ave. and Broad
way on Willamette St, until last
April when they were burned out.
Since then the partners have had
offices at 47 W. Broadway.
The new building, with a steel
frame and concrete block walls,
is scheduled for completion Mar.
1.
Total floor space will be 7,800
feet: The structure will 'be of con
temporary design, with air con
ditioning using a water-covered
roof. Entrances to the upstairs
offices will be from a balcony
reached by an inside stairway.
Engineers on the job are West
em Engineering Consultants.
Chambers and Unthank are the
designers. Myers and White are
the mechanical engineers. The
W. H. Shields Construction Co. is
the builder. All are local firms
Four Timber
Tracts Sold
SALEM M Four tracts of
timber totaling 2,097,000 board
feet were sbld by the Bureau of
Land Management this week for
$76,968.
Western Milling Co. of Corval-I
lis submitted high bid of $39,218
for 1,479,000 board feet in a tract
near Alsca.
The Alsea Lumber Co. of Alsea
bid $3,679 for 283,000 board feet
of timber on Preacher Creek in
Lane County.
The Clear Lumber Co. of Sweet
Home bid $25,584 for 940,000
board feet of timber in Linn
county. The Diamond Lumber Co.
of Portland paid $8,486 for 395,
000 board feet of timber in Tilla
mook County.
All the tracts sold consisted
primarily of salvage timber, in
cluding fire-killed, windthrown
and insect-damaged timber.
The bureau received no bids
for 58,000 board feet of timber
in Clackamas County. Bids may!
be submitted for a period of 90
days, unless the timber is sold
sooner at not less than the ap
praised price of $1,131.
Six tracts of timber estimated
to contain 2,661,000 board feet
will be offered for bids Feb. 1.

that It Is the Intention of the
Common Council of the City of
Eugene to repeal ordinance no.
102(12, pertaining to the fares
charged by the City Transit
Lines, a corporation, and
amend Section Two of Ordinance
No. 10200, which ordinance grants
an exclusive franchise to said
Cltv Transit Lines so that said
Section Two would be as fol
lows:
"Section 2. The maximum rale
of fare which may be charged by
the grantee herein for each trip
In one general direction within
the limits of the City of Eugene
shall not be more than 18 cents,

sold by the granted at the rate
or eight rides for not more man
31.00, with free transfer privi
leges; that the fare for children
five years to twelve years of age
shall be 3 cents for each trip

Jan. 6, 1955, at a Eugene hos
pital at the age of 73. Tha
son of a pioneer family, H. C. .
A. and Mary Miller, Henry Mil
ler waa born Feb. 9, 1BS0, In
Racine, Wis. The family moved
from Racine to Oregon In
, 1888, where they purchased a
family home ln Eugene on
Patterson St. between 10th and
tlth Aves. This original noma
is still situated on its original
site on Patterson St. The fam
ily homesteaded 160 acres at
Crow, Ore., in 1902, and pur
chased a 70-acre ranch on tha
old Elmlra Road west of Eu
gene In 1890, where they hav.a
lived continuously since mov
ing there In 1902. Henry Mil
ler became an 'active member
of the Cyclone Hose Co. No. '
ot the Eugone Fire Dept. In
1899; he was a charter member
of the local chapter of tha
Modern Woodmen of America, ,
and was eligible to use tha
Oregon pioneer hunter and
angler license. He waa married
to Verne Miller In Eugene,
June 20, 1906. He is survived
by his widow, Verne Miller,
and their throe children: Harry '
A. Miller, Eugene; Mrs. Graca
Robinson of Chehalls, Wash.;
and Mrs. Ethel Rosenbaum or
Eugone; nine grandchildren and '
throe great-grandchildren; also
one brother, Charles F. Miller
of Los Angeles, Calif. The fu
neral will ho held in the Poole
Larson Chapel on Saturday, ,
Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. Mr. Joseph

the Knights of Pythias, the
BPOE No. 357, Eugene Rotary
Club and Obsidians. He It

both of Eugene; 2 granddaugh

the age of 77. He was born In
Denmark, Aug. 4, 1677. He had

at Dagmar, Mont., In 1009. He
was a member of the Junction
City Lutheran Church and the
Danish Brotherhood. He Is

Calif,, and Carl E. of Merced,
Calif.; 1 daughter. Edith An
derson of Burbank, Calif.; 4
grandchildren; 1 brother, Al

she Is survived by a son,
Howard Hromada of Klamath
Falls., Ore., and a sister, Mrs,
Ike Thompson of Wallowa,
Ore. The funeral will be held
In the Poole-Larsen Chapel on
Saturday, Jan. 8, at 3:00 p.m.,
with the Rev. Recter Johnson
officiating. Cremation will follow.
