Warn Irish-Swarrz
Several representatives of
large national food manufac
turers showed up at Irish
Swartz today complaining
that they were having trouble
explaining this situation to
the food wholesalers.
They said Irish-Swartz was
soiling food way below whole
sale cosls and warned them
that this practice must not
continue."
From latest reports, these
representatives were locked
in one of the Irish-Swartz
Markets until they cooled off.

To Beat Irish-Swartz
It was learned today that
three food detectives would
be at Irish-Swartz Markets
Saturday to help control this
murderous situation.
General manager Ed Carl

they have been hired by the

Quiet, mild-mannered Ed
Carlson sat in his office at
Irish-Swartz Market today
and calmly told his story.
The manager of Irish-Swartz,
the Eugene's chain of food
stores, is charged with com
mitting murder against the
high cost of living.
The accused man readily
admitted his guilt. Although
there were accomplices who
worked with him, he said the
crime was instigated by him
and carried out under his
direction.
Speaking in a clear, un
wavering voice, Carlson ex
plained his motives.
"The reasons for this ac
tion are quite clear," he
said. "We buy from week to
week and are therefore able
to keep our stocks balanced
at all times. We have no
middleman or warehouse ex
pense and this means lower
handling costs on every item.
Decreased handling costs
mean lower overhead which

in the form of rock-bottom
prices on almost every item."
Add to these savings the
savings gained by buying the
dollar specials and you find
that shoppers who buy the
dollar specials and in case
lots do so at the very lowest
prices at Irish-Swartz.
"By keeping our prices low
every day," Carlson said, "we
have kept our business fairly
evenly divided between each
day of the week. The savings
gained by this even distribu
tion of business have as usual
been passed on to the shop
per." Although he confessed his
guilt, Ed was confident he
would be acquitted. The ac
cused man insisted that
housewives will free him
after they discover he is of
fering the lowest prices ever
to hit Eugene. Evidence of

Although Ed Carlson realizes his crime committed against
high food cosls will draw a penalty as serious as packing

efficient checkout services will handle purchasers with the
speed and courtesy that is due each, no matter the size of
his grocery bag.

"Cabbage Head" Olsen, another prominent member of
tne murder mob, was still at large this afternoon; but had
been seen making preparation for his own fiendish part in
the Irish-Swartz Markets price murder this morning. Armed
to the teeth with a bucket of ice and a vegetable knife, he
was carving huge chunks out of produce prices throughout
the FRUIT AND VEGETABLE DEPARTMENTS. He was
seen attacking the following victims:

Victims of
Slashing
Probably the most astonish,
ing crime ever perpetuated
in Eugene against the high
cost of living is taking place
at Irish-Swartz Markets. Doz
ens o grocery items will go

ting spree expected to bene
fit every homemaker in Eu.
gene and surrounding area.
Headman Carlson, in an
nouncing his criminal inten
tions, said the big price-
slashing event will run for 3
days. He gave this reason for
keeping special prices in ef
fect from Friday thru Sun
day: "By extending the' time
limits of the sale thru next
Sunday, we hope to let all
the shoppers in the area reap
the benefits from the lowered
prices, regardless of where
they are in the habit of shopping."
