The Eugene Bureau of Parks
and Recreation summer schedule
of children's park activities
swings into high gear Monday,
after a first week of mostly rain
and cold weather.
Schedules for the five play
areas in the city parks system
were released Friday, and a host
of activities await youngsters
Monday at 9 a.m.
University Park will have a
wading pool available, tumbling,
a story hour, baseball school and
other activities during the week.
Fairmount will feature organized
games, arts and crafts, and on
Friday will feature a picnic lunch
ana a bike to Hendricks Park.
Grant St. Park, on the north
side of the city, will feature most
of the activities that are held
throughout the system. But on
Friday, there will be a special
"race day" event.
At Sladden Park, children will
have a chance to do finger paint
ing on Tuesday. Much the same
type of activitiy will by held at
Washington Park, according to
scheduled plans.

Alvin Fitzgerald's mind Monday
after being trapped in a scaled
railroad car for eight days.
Dehydrated from the long or
deal, the 28-ycar-old man was
freed Sunday night after a hobo
reported hearing a noise.
Fitzgerald, at first unable to
talk, was hospitalized in "poor,
but improving" condition. After
several hours he began to mum
ble incoherently and finally, he
said: "I'm awful hungry."

eral Hospital at Florence fed
him chipped ice at first, later
soft foods.
Southern Pacific Railroad offi
cials said Fitzgerald, of Seattle
and Spring Valley, Calif., appar
ently had climbed into the car
loaded with lumber in Washing
ton State a week ago Saturday.
