Title Retained
By Von Pop
Kurt Von Peppenheim is still
the Pacific Coast junior heavy
weight wrestling champion follow
ing a close brush with French
Canadian Luigi Macera in Satur
day's title match at the Eugene
Armory.
Macera picked up the initial ad
vantage when he wrapped the
champ in a small package for the
fall. But the "Proud Prussian"
squared matters as the match got
progressively rougher. A half
Boston crab gave Von Poppen
hcim the second fall.
The decisive fall was a quickie
when Von Poppenheim caught
Macera coming off the ropes and
applied a bow-and-arrow back
breaker hold. That finished the
title bid of the handsome Port
lander. Danny O'Rourke won the semi
final event when he won the only
fall frnm Duke Schneider with a
reverse surf board. This started
as a scientific match but quickly
became heated when both rivals
began to mix it up. A 30-minute
time limit stopped the match be
fore any further pins.
In the opener, tough Tony Ross
applied a backbrcaker and body
press to win from another Arm
ory newcomer, Torchy Smith.
