difficult to outsmart a lawyer,
particularly if you happen to be
Ihe wife of a lawyer.
That's what Dotty Berger is.
Her hushand Milton is a barrister
around these acres and lives over
in Arlington County.
Well, Ihe other day Dolly was
cruising in the family hack along
about 11100 Pennsylvania Ave. She
came to an abrupt halt when
across the way she spied some
body she knew, fellow named
Alexander Goldberg, of Pough
keepsie, N. Y. He happened to be
her brother.
She. gof out of the car and
started across the street when
the officer on detail blew his
whistle on her. My, oh me,
thought Dotly, I'm going to catch
it for jay-walking.
PARKING TICKET
Instead the officer pulled out
his lit I lo ticket pad and slarted
scratching out a summons for
parking where it said, plain as
day, not to.
The officer did what all these
fellows do. He asked to see Dot
ty's driver's permit. He frowned
and did some more scratching.
The lady finally paid her re
spects lo Al, and then drove on
home. That night she told hubby j
Milt about her bout with the law.'
"Let me give you a little legal;
advice, dear," Milt said. "You j
just run down and pay the fine.
You haven't a chance." I
. Right then and there, Dotty
started acting like a woman.
"I will not,',' she said with
capital "N." There is something
wrong here, and I'm going to.
challenge this. And thank you,
Milt, I don't need a lawyer." !
GOES TO COURT . 1
So at the appointed hour on the'!
appointed day. Dotty hied herself !i
to the courthouse and searched
out somebody in authority.
Before the judge had time lo
bang his gavel she had a little
chat with him. She said that there
was a few erros on the writing
on ine uckct. i
First off, she pointed out that
1600 Pennsylvania Ave., which
incidentally is where President
Eisenhower and family live, is in
northwest Washington and not

southeast, as listed on the ticket.
"And," she asked his honor,
"don't I look like a female?"
The judge could give only the
obvious answer, since Dotty is
very lady-like.
"Well," she continued, "he has
me put down as a male. And
third, he says that I am guiltv
of disobeying an officer of the
law. 1 did nothing of the kind
your honor. All I did was say
'yes, sir.' Is that disobeying an
officer, your honor?"
His honor scratched his head.
"All right, you win," he said.
"As soon as you lawyers get
arrested you have to go and get
legalistic about it."
The un-legalistic Mrs. Berger
cocked her bonnet at a rackish
angle and walked oul of the
courthouse, a free and happy
woman.
HOPE TO RETURN TO AIR

return to the air under new man
agement by mid-January.
