Springfield's plant was built in
May of 1950. Since then, one oth
er addition has been made, which
included space and installation of
a 12,000 gallon nil storage tank
to contain cotton seed oil.
The plant contains fully auto
matic machinery for the manu
facture of the potato chips. The
potatoes, selected from special
Northwest crops, go through the
automatic peeler, then slices are
washed in cold running water.
This is done to remove excess
starch.
According to Itadabaugh, the
Springfield plant turns out about
3,500 pounds of finished chips
each day. That's with the aid of
about 18 employes.
The chips are shipped out to
distributors each day, some by
Freightways truck. They leave
Springfield in the evening and
are in the stores the next morn
ing, assuring customers the fresh
est supply of potato chips avail
able, Radabaugh said.
Distributors served by the
Springfield plant arc in Salem,
Medford, Redmond, Klamath
Falls, Coos Bay, Eugene, Rose-
burg, Gold Beach and other
towns.
The Springfield plant is Ihe
only Oregon Nalley branch oul
side of Portland. Main office is
in Tacoma.
Designed by Western Engi
neering Co., Seattle, the new
plant cost about $25,000. Barn-
hurst Bros, were the general con
tractors.
