'Because of You'
Gangsters and comedy mix In
the latest movie adapted from the
pen works of Damon Runyon,
Stop, You're Killing Me." which
opens Sunday at the McDonald
Jheatre.
The Heilig this week will fea
ture a story of a woman who con
ceals an ugly past for a happy
home, then forfeits the home
when the past is revealed, This
film. "Because of You," also opens
Sunday.
In "Stop " Broderick Craw
ford and Claire Trevor play a mar
ried couple in typical Runyoncsque
muggs-and-dolls style.
The story is of Rcmy Marko
(Crawford), a gangland overlord
who has desires to go straight be
cause of his devoted wife and
daughter. He takes his family and I
some loyal henchmen to Saratoga!
Springs where they occupy one of
the resort s most palatial man
sions. TRACK HOLDUP
Meanwhile, a local race track
bookie is held up for half a mil
lion dollars, and the bandits take
refuge in Marko's house. At this
point, the four robbers are mur
dered by the double-crossing fifth,
and the Marko family becomes in
volved with four "parties" which
need to be disposed of; half a mil
lion in hot money, and a trigger
happy hoodlum hiding in the attic.
In "Because of You" Loretta
Young plays a young woman who,
innocently implicated in her lov
er's crime, conceals her prison rec
ord and later loses both 'husband
and child when an accident serves
to reveal her past.
HARD WAY
Loretta portrays a harassed
heroine in most of the film, but as
the suffering wife and mother,
she learns the hard way that hon
esty is the best policy.
Other films arriving locally this
week worthy of mention include
"Blue Angel," the picture that
made Marlene Dietrich famous,
which opens at the Mayflower Sun
day; "Things to Come," the old,
but good, H. G. Wells fantasy
thriller, which follows "Blue An
gel" at the Mayflower starting
Wednesday; and "Thunder in the
East, an exciting action film
about gun-running to a peaceful,
but threatened, city in the middle
east.

versity Theatre production, will be portrayed by Jim Blue,
left, of Portland. Jeanne Gottfrcdson, Pocatcllo, Ida., is cast
as his wife. The show plays Feb. 6, 7, 11, 12, 13 and 14. The
campus boxoffice will open Monday, Feb. 2. and remain
open from 1 to 5 p.m. daily, except during the run of the
production when it will remain open until curtain time

A historical novel of post-Civil
War Texas, published originally in
Zane Grey's Western Magazine,
"Outlaw Thickets" tells the story of
a young ex-Confederate soldier who
becomes a "mavericker," rounding
up unbranded cattle running wild
in the brush, eventually acquires a
fortune in the cattle business and
becomes involved in reconstruction
politics, opposing his old friends in
the bush, until a climactic conflict
with his now-grown son give him
other ideas.
