some of the local boys in the ser
vice of our country: Owen Ruede,
Vestal Powell and Jack Sage are
with the Army Engineers in
Panama; Darrell Stott, Nelson
Woodland. Orvin Ruede. Marion
Fish,- Joe Brewer and ' Melvin
Goodman are with the Army in
Korea. Francis St. Clair is with
the Air Force in Korea and Albert
Overton '. is with the Navy in
Korean waters. Walter Golding,
who was recently returned to the
states after receiving the Purple
Heart in Korea, is now in Letter-
men's Hospital in Calif.
Carl Ehrich is with the Signal
Corps in Japan; Paul Topf is with
the Army in Spain; Don Satter is
stationed with the Navy in Cali
fornia and ' expects to be dis
charged soon.
Those with the Army and still
in the states are: Walter Patscheck
In the Tank Corps at Camp
Rucker, Alabama; Merle True-
blood, in boot training at Camp
Roberts, Calif.; and Jim Pettijohn,
with the paratroopers at iort
Campbell, Kentucky.

patrol boat was waiting when a
40-year-old Portland man jumped
from the Morrison Bridge into the
Willamette River here early Tues
day.
Julius F. Pent, a displaced per
son from Estonia, made the 30
foot jump and was fished out at
once. He was jailed on a dis
orderly conduct charge.
