Four Decide
To Try Again
As Lane County shivered In
the icy grip of a winter storm,
there were evidences of an early
Spring up north in Albany.
Tuesday there were only two
applications for marriage licen
ses at the county clerk's office.
All four applicants were from
Albany and all were re-marrying
their former mates after re
cent divorces.
Earle Rhea Shelton, 33, Is to
re-marry Phyllis Shelton, 30.
They were divorced in March of
1951. Edwin and Violet Chilcott,

The couples came in separately
and not by pre-arrangement ac

Oil Workers
Vote to Strike
March 3 Deadline
Approved by Union
DENVER (IP) A strike to
start March 3 in some of the larg
est plants in the oil industry was
called Wednesday night.
The committee representing 22
unions, which had voted approv
al of a strike to back up wage de
mands, did not name the plants
which would be struck.
The effect the strike would
have on supplies of Easoline and
oil will not be known until it is
learned what plants are to be
struck. Neither union men nor
oil company spokesmen would
speculate on how much of the oil
industry would be affected by the
strike.
However, oil and railroad com
panies were stockpiling gasoline
ana on luei in the Rocky Moun
tain area in preparation for a
possible shortage.
The strike will not shut down
the entire industry. The unions
which authorized a stake do not
have control of some ot the larger
refineries.
O. A. Knight, president of the
CIO Oil Workers International
Union, said the unions are asking
a basic 25 cents an hour increase
in pay.
