In accepting the honor, he told
the members of the academy in a
speech that the task of forming an
international defense force to re

in peacetime, even during the three
centuries of the existence of this
ancient institution."

Committee Recommends
Reclamation Bill
WASHINGTON U.R The
Senate Interior Committee has
recommended passage of a bill
giving the Interior Department
more time to amend contracts
with reclamation projects to re
pay their construction costs.
The bill, passed by the House
last fall, extends to Dec. 31, 1954,
the department's authority to
amend contracts with irrigation
projects having difficulty in re
paying ther costs.
The department's authority to
renegotiate the contracts expired
at the end of 1951.
