first step, chances are you've
felt the urge, once in a while, to
hurry her along by pulling her
to her feet or by dandling her
upon the floor.
Contrlo these impulses, urge
the experts, if you wish your
daughter to grow up with lovely
legs and with strong, healthy
feet which will carry her com
fortably through the various ac
tivities demanded of a modern
woman.
Her feet are the foundation of
her future beauty, so avoid early
mistakes that might result later
in an awkward posture, a shuff
ling gait, or mis-shapen knees,
calves and thighs.
Start her off in the right di
rection with the correct first
shoes. Foot specialists recom
mend that both uppers and soles
.be of pliable leather. The under
surface of the soles should be
roughened to lessen chances of
the toddlers slipping as she
takes her first tentative steps.
Proper fit is of utmost imoor
tance, so it's wise to patronize a
reliable store with a reputation

You can check the shoes your
self, to see if the salesman has
allowed at least one-half to
three-quarters of an inch of
space between the end of the
longest toe and the tip of the
shoe. Run your hand inside the
shoes, as well, to make certain
the linings are smooth, with no

Once the walking has begun
which may be quite late for
heavy children teach your lit
tle girl to walk correctly. Train
her to point her feet straight
ahead, else there may be trouble
later with toeing-out or pigeon'
