When J. Hartley Manners wrote

he certainly had someone like

in mind for the

4-H Chairman
' Members of the 4-H Advisory
Council for Lane County recently
elected Hart Larsen as chairman
of the council.
Larsen replaces L. W. Tromm

the meeting was setting up a com

Working on dinner plans are
Dan Danielson, Robert Davis and
Harry Chase. In past years the
appreciation dinner and the lead

Miss Hawkesworth, small, vi
vacious and blonde, has appeared
in other VLT productions includ
ing "Dear Ruth", and "Suppressed
Desire". She is superb with her
Irish accent in "Peg",
Miss Hawkesworth is generally
well supporcd in the play which
concerns an uppity-up British
family which suddely finds itself
broke, and, at the same time,
saved from financial distress by
the will of a rich relative which
specifics that the arrogant Chich
estcrs care for another relative,
Peg.
Peg admits she's the proverbial
"sow's ear" from which silk purses
cannot be made, but demonstrates
that she has a heart of gold.
John Poull, who last appeared
in "Elizabeth the Queen," is very
good as the loose-jointed, non
chalant, lazy son of the idle rich,
Chichestcrs.
Acting honors, too, are shared
by the VLT veterans, Mrs. Sylvia
Culhbert, as the selfish mater of
the Chichester household; by Mrs.
Peg Roark as the daughter, and
Robert Nelson, as Jerry, the titled
neighbor who saves the day, and
wins Peg.
Mrs. Cuthbert last was seen in
"There's Always Juliet." Mrs.
Roark appeared last in "Rhyth
mania," Robert Nelson appears for
the first time on VLT stage, after
successful parts with University
Theater, the latest in "Mary of
Scotland."
Jack Logan, who has had experi-i
ence with Portland theater groups,:
is making his debut with VLT, as
Brent, Ethel Chichester's suitor. I
On opening night he could have
been more deliberate in his acting
and speech. I
Dwight Newman, always de-1
pendable, took the part of the
family lawyer. Robert Niccolls, as
the footman, and Boa Perin as the
maid, were convincing; got their
share of laughs.
The two canine actors were good,
too. "Michael" the mongrel, was
borrowed from the Humane So
ciety, and needs a home after the
show closes. The "society" dog
was played by Dwight Newman's
"Tyke."
A ROSE: "Peg" Hawkesworth's
acting.

Rites Reduce
Divorce Rate
HARTFORD, Conn. (P) A
system of "divorce prevention"
has been worked out by the Very
Rev. Louis M. Hirshson, dean of
Christ Church Cathedral in Hart
ford. All couples married in the
church in the past five years were
invited to a special service, which
began with the traditional sacred
wedding music. The marriage cer
emony was re-read and all were
invited to stand and join in re
newal of marriage promises.
"f have known of church peo
ple who become divorced," the
dean said. "Yet in my quarter cen
tury of the ministry, I have known
not a single instance of those who
have prayed and worshipped to
gether habitually, to have become
separated."
