Lost Miner Found
In Rugged Terrain
GRANTS PASS MP) Harry
Ackerell, 70, oldtime miner lost in
rugged terrain near Holland since
Friday, was found by searchers
exhausted but apparently having
suffered no serious effects.
Ackerell was treated by a
physician at Cave Junction and is
to be brought to Josephine Gen
eral Hospital here for a few days
after which he will go to the home
of relatives in Portland, Sheriff
iLoyd Lewis said.

Tour Suburbs
The Lane County Planning
Commission Tuesday night toured
a suburban area for which zoning
regulations have been proposed,
and set three public hearings next i
month for discussion of the pros
and cons of zoning.
The area includes sections 25,
26, and 35 of Township 17 South,
Range 4 West. The area Is bound
ed by a line running West to
Bailey Hill road, South to Eight
eenth Ave W., North to Gilbert
and Son subdivision, and to a
point 400 feet north of Hansen
Lane off River Road, and East to
North Jackson St.
Hearings will be held Aug. 15,
at Westmoreland School; Aug. 16,
at Bethel School; and Aug. 17,
at River Road School; all at 8 p. m.
Approve Plats .
In addition to launching the
zoning program, the commission
Tuesday night also approved the
Jackson plat on the Mahlon Sweet
Airport Road; approved the Oak
Terrace plat south of Stella Mag-
ladry School, and gave tentative
approval to the Crist plat on
Woahink Lake south of Florence,
Citizens in the River Road dis
trict protested to the planning
commission against a proposed
road development which would
block a flood channel near Elkay
Drive. This was referred to the
county surveyor.

County Begins Work
On Rowe River Bridge
County Surveyor P. M. Morse
announced Tuesday that county
bridge crews had begun work on
a new 105 foot wooden covered
span for Rowe River at the upper
end of the lake which will be
formed by Dorena Dam.
All work will be done by coun
ty crews, at an estimated cost of
$7500.
Morse said the present bridge
will be flooded out when the dam
is completed.
