into effect Saturday, according to
word received thin week by
Supervisor J. R. nrurkart.
The closure nnnhes to the un
regulated ue of certain areas, in
cluding cutover and dangerous
old burns, and provides that an
entry permit must be obtained by
persons wishing to enter nuch
areai. Entry will be for business
purposes only.

touring department of the Oregon
motor club, report his depart
ment is arranging many long
motor trips this season, many to
distant eastern and southern
points as well as into Canada to
the north.
Indicative of the trend toward
long vacation trips is the increase
in the number of F.uropean trips
arranged by the motor club this
year. To date, the club has ar

pared to 12 lor the entire year in
1948.
"While actual volume of motor
tourists in Oregon may be down
slightly this year, the average
vacation trip Is as long or longer
than it has been in recent years."
Crowe declared. "The practical
effect of this trend Is that Oregon

nounced that holders of mining
claims on federal public lands
must file notice of intention to
hold the claims by noon, Aug. 1.
Krug said that failure to file
throws the claims open to reloca
tion by another person.
He said In a statement that the
notice must be filed in the office
where the location certificate or
statement is recorded. Depue

Management director, said the no

recorded there.

line announcement said:
"The necessity for filing a
statement of intention to hold a
mining claim is an important
feature of a law passed by Con
gress In June, relating to the per
formance of $100 worth of labor
or Improvements on a mining
claim each year In order to re
tain possession of the claim.
"The new law suspended the
requirement for performance of
this annual assessment work dur
ing the year which ended June
30, 1949, and provided that, if
such work was done during that
year, the claimant could claim
credit for its pcrfoimanco during
the annual assessment year end
ing July 1, 1B50.
Must File Intention
"In order to claim such credit,
however, he must, under the law
file notice by noon of Aug. 1941)
intention to retain his claim. The
notice likewise must be filed If
the claimant performed no annual
assessment work during the 1941!
