Lapels, Belts
Sport Medals
An ornamental award which
you can bestow upon yourself is
a "ribbon of honor" to dangle
from a belt or lapel.
A strip of boldly patterned
grosgram from which you can ap
pend an old-fashionea medal, a
pendant or even an old coin can
be used to make togs as decora
tive as a diplomat's beribboned
chest
Because "medal" ribbons are a
cinch to make even the cocarde
or rosette which dresses up many
authentic honor ribbons is simple
to duplicate you can make a va
riety to give scenic changes to
one medallion. To make, use two
two-inch strips of staff grosgram
or moire ribbon. Taper one end
of each strip into a point. Sew the
pointed ends together to make the
tip from which the medallion
dangles.
To make a cocarde, cut two
lengths of ribbonn a half inch
wide and two inches long. With
pinking scissors, piquot one edge
of each strip. Ruffle the strips
with needle and thread and sew
together to make the circular
rosette.
To simulate the rim around an
authentic cocarde, use a rimmed
button the lower half of a metal
self-covered button base makes a
perfect frame. Sew the rosetts to
the button and stitch to "medal1
ribbon.
