Jockey Suspended for
Derby Ride Saturday
ARCADIA. Calif., Feb. 23 W5)
Jockey Willie Garner was sus
pended Tuesday for the rest of
the Santa Anita meeting' for his
ride on Olympia in the $100,000
derby.
The stewards said Garner inter
fered with the rest of the field by
cutting his mount across from the
No. 13 post position to the rail in
Saturday's big race.
Olympia, odds on favorite, took
a commanding lead after this start
and held it until the stretch, when
longshot Old Rockport overhauled
him to win by a length and a half.
The stewards, after viewing
films of the race, also recommend
to the state horce racing board
that Garner's license be revoked
in California for the rest of the
year.
Clifford Mooers, Texas oil and
cattleman, said his 3-year-old will
be pointed for the Kentucky Der
by, the Belmont Stakes and The
Preakness.
