Three Babies
PORTLAND W) Police had
cart .of three babies Wednesday,
alter rinding them unattended in
automobiles.
Two were taken from a locked
automobile. Police, summoned by
passersby who were attracted by
their cries, broke a window to
reach them. The babies were both
under 6 months old. The mothers
were sentenced to 30 days in Jail
for disorderly conduct, but muni
cipal Judge J. J. Quillin paroled
them to the women's protective
division provided they take child
care lessons from the Red Cross.
The other child, two months
old, was found alone in a car out
side a tavern. A note u i
telling the parents to call at the
police station lor their baby.
When they arrived an hour later,

foot circular saw, rigged to the
rear wheels of a jacked automo
bile, burst this week with the fol
lowing results:
A piece of the saw went through
the roof of a schoolhouse a half
mile away.
A 16-pound chunk of the fly
wheel flew over a crowded busi
ness section and ripped Into a
house a quarter of a mile away.
A piece of metal spun 300 feet
through the windshield of a new
car and dented the roof.
Another piece of the saw
crashed through the window of a
tenement house and showered two
occupants with glass and splinters.
Neither was injured. '
The operator of the saw suf
fered only a minor cut when the
belt snapped.
