City police Wednesday morning
were called to Investigate a bur
glary at 218 Fifth Ave. W. Three
' men rooming there told officers
that someone entered their room

all valuables. Dave Enoch said
that his loss included $56 in cash
and a watch. Raymond Brlce and

Major John A. Hackenbmck and
Captain Hubert E. Totman of the
832nd Field Artillery Battalion,
Organized Reserve Corp, Eugene,
are In Fort Lewis, Wash, (or two
days of active-duty training. Ma
jor Clarence W. Petersen of the
regular army, unit instructor for
the Eugene branch of the ORC, Is
also at the Fort Lewis meeting.
The three men will secure the
necessary preparatory information
for the two-week summer training
camp for artillery units of the
Northwest area to be held at Fort
Lewis from August 22 to Septem
ber 5.
Fourteen members of the 832nd
attended the regular Tuesday
night training session at headquar
ters located at 1450 West Twelfth.
The terrain puffboard was used
for the first time, and proved very
successful.
Simulated fire direction prob
lems were worked out on the puff
board by every member attending.
Major Hackenbruck was In charge,
assisted by Captain Totman.
Bert Gates
Funeral services will be held at
Simon Chapel in Eugene Friday,
July 23, for Bert Gates of Rt. 1,
Veneta. Gates died Wednesday,
July 21 at his home.
Born May 20, 1887 at Crow,
Ore., Gates continued to live there
durjng his entire life. Survivors
include his widow, Inez; one son,
Emery Gates of Veneta; two
grandchildren, Allen and Janice
Gates; three brothers, Jeff of
Springfield, Lewis of North Bend,
and Earl; a sister, Mrs. Luly Lane
of Eugene. Services will begin at
2:30 p.m. Friday, with interment
in West Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

died at a local hospital Wednes
day, July 21. Funeral services will
be held at Poole-Larsen Chapel in
Eugene at 2 p.m. Saturday, July

Tuckness, who died at Mapleton
July 14,
Tuckness, 84, had been a Lane
County resident 25 years. He was
born Dec. 9, 1884, and is survived
by the following; a son, Wallace
of Seattle; two brothers, Jesse of
Springfield, Mo and Clyde Tuck
ness of New York; two sisters,
Myrtle Kriddle of Riverside,
Calif., and Mrs. Bertha Scott, also
in California. He was a member
of the Astoria Masonic Lodge.
Graveside services will be at
Westlawn Memorial Park Thurs
day, July 22, at U a.m., with the
Masonic Lodge in charge of the
committal service. Bartholomew-

Mrs. Catherine Ruth Vincent .of
Eugene and Springfield died sud
denly while visiting a friend, Mrs.
Jonn tlynn, in Corvallis Tuesday
evening, the Warner-McHenry
Funeral Home reported.
Mrs. Vincent was born In De
troit, Mich., Sept. 15, 1871 and was
reared and educated in that city.
She was married to Fred C. Vin
cent Oct. 25, 1890 and they lived
there until 1900. The couple mov
ed to Helena, Mont., living there
until 1903, and in Spokane until
1919. Mrs. Vincent lived in Port
land until 1946, when she moved
to this area. Her husband died in
1915.
