AWOL Sergeant
Said Living Well
WASHINGTON (U.R) The U.S.
Army sergeant who went AWOL
from his embassy post in Moscow
was reported Wednesday to be
living In one of the better apart
ment houses in the Russian cap
ital.
His Russian girl friend, de
scribed by the State Department
as an official Soviet agent, Is liv
ing there, too, according to re
ports from Moscow. Normally, it
was said, residence in the apart
ment requires a "high priority"
from the Russian government.
It was not known here whether
the soldier, 21-year-old Jamei M.
McMillin, Boulder, Colo., had a
job In Moscow. He left his U.S.
Embassy post May 13, shortly be
fore his scheduled return home.
The Moscow radio subsequently
broadcast what is described as a
statement by McMillin praising
the ideals of the Soviet Union and
saying he .wanted to remain there.
However , officials here mid
they were confident his defection
was caused by his "infatuation"
with Mrs. Galina D. Biconish and
not by politics. She was described
as an "experienced" Soviet agent.
