: Accidents Noted
Threa drivers were arrested as
tha result of weekend accidents
; in the city, with one being
charged on three counts.
Gerald C. Anderson, 105 Iowa
St., was charged with reckless
driving, being involved in a hit
run accident and with driving
without a license after his license
number was traced following an
8:15 p.m. accident on Sixth Ave.
near Washington.
$100 Damage
Witnesses said Anderson's car
struck a parked vehicle belonging
to Joe Smith, 566 Sixth Ave. W
causing an estimated $100 damage
to the Smith sedan. Upon locating
Anderson, police found that the
collision also had done about $50
damage to his own car.
Theodore R; Degood, 1S72 Oak
St., was arrested Sunday at 12:50
a.m. for violation of the basic
rule after colliding at Thirteenth
and Willamette with Patrick J.
Moore, 184 Iowa St. Damage to
the cars was slight.
Saturday at 2:50 p.m., Kenneth
given a ticket for failure to yield
the right-of-way after his deliv

Agate. Neither vehicle was seri
ously damaged in this mishap.
Another Saturday accident,
however, sent two Salem people
to the Eugene Hospital for treat
ment of bruises and resulted in the
total loss of their motorcycle.

To Portland Flier
PORTLAND (U.ft) John Ed
ward Wright, 40, Of Portland died
in Providence Hospital Sunday
night of injuries suffered when his
rebuilt monoplane erashed at the
Division Street airport Saturday
night.
, Witnesses said the plane stalled
and plunged to the ground from
1,000 feet elevation as It started
down for a landing. The plane
struck and ground and bounced
into another plane parked near
the runway. .

jackknife have a date In '58 with
aft old' acquaintance a turtle first
encountered 20 years ago. In the
spring of 1928 Atwood and a com
panion carved their initials and
the date on a turtle they found in

of a petition to bring about the
enactment of a state old-age pen
sion minimum. Old Age assistance
is now administered by the State
Welfare Commission on the basis
of need.
A group of Astoria fishermen,
led by J. Henry, seeks to outlaw
the larger operations that drag
salmon from the Columbia in
crane-operated nets.
Most of the petitions are spon
sored by groups with headquarters
in Portland or Salem, and local
forms are being sent to the head
quarters this week for final com
pilation for the Secretary of State's
office.

farmer has the name for all sorts
of Republican political activity.
His name is Dewey Warrer
Vote, 49.
Vote, who lives on a 33 acre
farm near here, said he doesn't
know why his parents named him
Dewey Warren.
They aren't family names, he
says, and he doesn't believe he is
a relative of either Republican
Presidential Nominee Thomas E.
Dewey or Vice-Presidential Can
didate Earl Warren.
Asked who he was going to votf
for, Vote replied:
"Well I have an idea. I'm a
Republican. You can guess."

Receives Medal

1948 Daniel Guggenheim medal
Monday for "outstanding achieve
ment in successfully advancing
