Nurses' Banquet
Brings Leaders
To Be Speakers
The twenty-fifth anniversary of
the Oregon State Nurses Associa
tion will be observed at the an
nual banquet of nurses of Dis
trict Five, OSNA, which will be
held as a buffet dinner Tuesday
evening at the Eugene Hotel.
Fast president of the district are
to be honored, as well as the
graduating class from the school
of nursing at Sacred Heart Hos
pital. Miss Shirley Thompson, presi
dent of the association, will at
tend and also Miss Jane Doyle of
Portland, one of the leaders in
work for nurses in the state. Miss
Thompson will speak on the
topic: "Nursing Now and for the
Future." Miss Doyle's subject
will be: Nursing As It Was in
1923."
Miss Esther Jacobson will pre
side, as retiring president, and
Miss Medwin Watson, newly
elected president, will be pre
sented. Eldon Pentilla, baritone, will
be the soloist, accompained by
Andrew Flanders. Richard Par
ish will give a feature dance,
and Miss Betty Lou Jasper will
play incidental music. .
Early graduates from the Eu
gene school, then of Pacific
Christian Hospital (now Sacred
Heart), are expected from Port
land and Medford and Califor
nia. About two hundred will at
ted the dinner.

final meeting for this season

The garden of the Lome of Mr.
and Mrs. Leon Glasscock made
a pleasing setting for the wed
ding of Miss Audrey Keeler,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett
Keeler, to John W. Hylton, son
of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Hylton of
Waldport. The Rev. Llewellyn
Griffith of First Methodist
Church officiated.
Miss Keeler wore a white suit
of summer fabric with waistline
veil, a white halo hat trimmed
with white roses, and an orchid
corsage. Miss Leora Carone was
bridesmaid, wearing a grey suit
with corsage of gardenias and
Cecile Brunner roses.
Cheryl and Diane Schlemmer
of Creswell were door atten
dants, as the party came from
the house through the French
doors. Leslie Hylton acted as
best man. Mr. Keeler gave his
daughter in marriage.
A cross outlined with large red
roses was placed on the lawn and
the party marched up the main
part, taking places on the cross
arms. The minister stood at the
head.
A prelude of marimba selec
tions was given by Mrs. Schlem
mer. Myron Schlemmer sang
"Because."
At the reception which fol
lowed the ceremony, held in the
Glasscock home, Mrs. Dale Lin
ley served the wedding cake and
Mrs. Herman Raymond and Miss
Freida Koeppe poured. The table
was decorated with candelabra,
and pink and white carnations
and roses. The same flowers
were used on the mantel.
Mr. and Mrs. Hylton left on a

Omicron Pi. The wedding is
planned for the late summer.
The engagement of Miss Mari
lyn Nicholl to Lowell F. Viken,
was announced recently by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. C.
Nicholl. Mr. Viken, who is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Viken,
is a sophomore at the university
where he is majoring in chem
ical engineering, and is an ex
service man.
Miss Nicholl was graduated
from the University High School
and attended university for a
time. The news was told at the
Nicholl home to a group of
friends, by means of tiny scrolls
tied to nosegays and used as
place cards.

daughter of Mrs. Jennie H. Grib
skov of Junction City, recently
announced her engagement to
Norman McCumsey at a party
given in their honor at the home
of Mrs. Hans Rasmussen. Mrs.
Rasmussen and Mrs. Russell
Gribskov were co-hostesses.
Both young people are gradu
ates of Junction City high school.
Miss Gribskov has attended
Willamette University and Ore
gon State College. Mr. McCum
sey served in the Navy during
the war and later attended Ore
go:! State College.

Garden Club Sets
Meeting Week Late
Eugene Garden ' Club an
nounces postponement of its
meeting from the third to fourth
Tuesday, June 22, in order to
hear reports from the State
Convention of Garden Clubs.
The sessions will be attended by
Mrs. L. M. Watson, president;
Mrs. Nadine Newman, vice
president; Mrs. Ernest Brunton,
state chairman of Garden Cen
ters, and Mrs. Cora Saunders,
district vice-president.
A display of herbs arranged in
a garden is planned for the con
vention, which will be held at
Gearhart, June 16-19.

MEETING MONDAY
Chapter H, P.E.O., will meet
Monday evening at seven-fifteen
o'clock, for dessert with Miss
Ethel Kinsey as hostess, and Miss
Mozelle Hair assisting, at the

Mrs. R. Grant Crakes was elect
ed president for the coming year
of Eugene City Club at its all
club luncheon meeting at
Friendly house Thursday after
noon. Mrs. Ernest Armes presided
at the meeting and thanked the
members for their cooperation
during the past year. She was
presented with a gift from the
club by Mrs. Harry M. Lichty.
Mrs. J. F. Judkins gave two
readings, "Umbrella on a Rainy
Day" and "Little Boy's Trinkets."
For this last, Mrs. Judkins had
two large pockets, fastened onto
her dress and during the recita
tion, they yielded an astonishing
number of articles!
